tab over to page 2 of this 'Chemical Warfare' section. see the same titled post "Timing Retard" posted by BigSS. i posted a detailed summary of one option on the IAT sensor. the post is from Jan 4. check it out. it works. also, i would try to figure out why you're getting knock. you need to figure out first if, in fact, you have real detonation going on. you can do this by adding a true octane booster to your fuel (or actual racing gas of 100 octane) then see if the KR goes away. Bardahl makes a genuine octane booster that you can buy at your local automotive store. dont fall for all the knock-off boosters. almost all of them are merely deposit removers (which is good, too), which will lower your octane requirements by cleaning the valves and piston tops. they do not actually raise the octane value. what i do is run one of these 'deposit cleaning' boosters once every 3 tanks fuel. then i use Bardahl octane booster every fill up to raise octane from 92 to 98. anyway, if the KR is still kicking in, then you are getting false knock. if it does go away, then you know you're dealing with real detonation and can address your troubleshooting from that standpoint. if you need input about real knock, drop me a line and i'll summarize what i have learned over the years (and lately on my C5).

Re: Timing retard?
How do you know that Bardahl raises your octane from 92 to 98? How big is the bottle and how much gas are you mixing it with?
I ask because I've never heard of any octane booster that would actually raise the octane this much. Most octane boosters raise the octane 3-8 "points" which is to say that they'll take 87 octane to 87.3-87.8. It's much harder to raise octane when you're starting with higher octane.
I'm not saying you're wrong in saying that a bottle of Bardahl can raise 92 octane to 98, but if it's true I would love to know more about it! <img src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" border="0">
From one test I read, the best octane boosters readily available in the US are the NOS boosters (there are three.) There was one from Australia better but it wasn't readily available here.
IMO, the best way to test for false KR is to use unleaded racing fuel. Motorsports 103, for example, has a R+M/2 (pump octane) of 103. If you get KR with that you KNOW it's false.

You should add your sig.It could make this alot easier.
You might be running lean from some other bolt-on.causing KR.

Re: Timing retard?
I have a cam, puley, mac's, 30# injectors, and ed wright. On motor the pass was mint, no knock. When I sprayed atap said 1.5 deg of knock and the chart was all spikey.
