Default Nitrous for LT1 - which controller/fuel pump?

I have an LT1 (current set-up is in my sig) and I plan on spraying a 125 shot. I only go to the track a few times a year and will be using this on the street mostly.

I had a few questions that I wanted your opinions on...
  • To pull timing only when using nitrous, I'm planning on using a Mallory 685 box since it is a window switch and can pull timing with one box. Are there any other units that can pull timing and perform other functions on an LT1 that you'd recommend? I liked the HSW MicroEdge a lot, but I would still need to buy another unit to pull timing
  • Do you think I should get the Racetronics fuel pump up front or should I just see if I maintain proper fuel pressure with my current pump first as I increase the shot size up to 125?
  • Do you think I need a fuel pressure gauge if I upgrade the fuel pump?
  • Also, should I be considering a controller that would allow a first gear lockout or progressive controller with a 125 shot?

Thanks a lot guys! I'm really excited for this, but want to make sure I do it right.

Thanks for the reply. I read some bad things about the MSD box and the Mallory box. It was pretty much equal, but it seemed like there were a few more issues with the MSD and since the Mallory has the bypass in case something does go wrong, I figured I'd go that way...

Anybody think I'll need the first gear lockout, time delay, or a progressive controller with a 125 shot on street tires?

Are you planning on shooting out of the hole?

Progressive you shouldn't need if you are planning on being a street bruiser. You'll never hook out the hole spraying on street tires on the street, probably not in 1st gear either.

If you run an aftermarket Fuel Pressure Regulator then most have a port to screw in a gauge.

No, not planning on spraying out of the hole as I already don't have good traction on launch, and because of my lil 10 bolt.

I also am not at WOT for the first half of 1st gear due to the traction issue either. Based on that, should I look into something to limit nitrous in early on, and if so which method (progressive/time delay/gear lockout)?

What tires are you running? I need new tires, my BFGs are bald so in 1st I have no traction until 5000rpm. I'm sure hitting in second won't be a problem.

245? Need some more rubber haha.

I would get a 255lph pump. Just so you know its what 200 bucks for the kit?

Hotcam isn't really all that great of a cam anyways but now throw in nitrous its not suited for that. But at 125 shot its not going to really matter to much.

I am also gonna run a Mallory 685. It also has a 2 step built in. MSD you need to buy a separate box that hooks to the 6 box.

YES, I certainly do need wider tires. Next time I need new tires I am upgrading to bigger wheels for sure.
