Default How to prevent system leak down?

Hey guys, I just got ahold of a TNT wet kit with the power ring ect.. I filled it and left the bottle open for a few hours and the system leaked down. What can I do short of leaving the bottle closed to prevent leak down.

Get a NX bottle opener. It comes in mighty handy.

If its leaking down quickly you have a leak some where. I use a product called "snoop" leak detector. You spray it on each fitting from the bottle forward up to the solinoid including the valve and valve handle shaft, neck of the bottle...even the braided line. Find the leaks and fix them. If you have fittings that leaks and cant be fixed by tightening, there is a soft aluminum "washer" called a SECO seal that is placed in between the fittings to seal it. They can be bought at any place that sell hydraulic and gas hoses. Basically go over everything again. I like to kep my bottle open for extended periods as well so I try to fix all the leaks...even the very small ones. One last thing....check the outlet of the solonoid for leaks too.

Thanks, I'll take your advice right away and alo look into a remote opener that does not replace the ****. I can't see myself pulling that stuff off every time I fill.

Well the only "opener" that doesn't replace your handle is by NOS and it is basically just a big noid. I have heard of problems with surging with those though. If you don't have enough/consistant voltage going to the noid it starts to pulse because it closes a little then opens and so on.

I think he was talking partially to me. I told him to get an opener. Because when you have an opener when you get it filled you have to unhook the opener, then take off the top, then fill it, then cap it and open it all the way, then put the opener back on and bolt it down then hook it up then close it, then take off the cap and put the nitrous feed line back on. That is one of the reasons i got a 15# bottle. So i wouldn't have to do it that often. The refill is a PITA but the convenience of having the remote opener outways that.

Master Guns, The remote opener isnt that tough to diconnect. One nut around the clamp, and the kit comes with a quick disconnect on the electrical stuff. Once you get the bottle out it takes only a second to get the stock **** back on the bottle to take to the fill station. I can get mine in and out in under 2 minutes taking my time. the longest part is getting the cover off the spare tire well to get at the bottle. I think the $'s spent on the opener were well spent.

Thanks for the info. I will pick one up soon. It's a PITA going back there and turning the bottle on every time you want to spray.

After I close my bottle, the pressure goes down slowly to 0psi in a few hours (maybe 5?), but I thought that would be normal. Or should it hold pressure for longer than that?

If I want to find a place that sells hydraulic and gas hoses in the phone book, what section should I look under? Thanks!

Well....a leak free system is not too big a deal to obtain. Prior to my new setup...I could close the bottle and have 1000 psi or so trapped in the line....come back a few days later and psi would be unchanged except for temp of the day. 0 leakdown. It took a little work to get it that way but it was worth it. Right now I do have a leak...I know right where it is, its at the cockpit gauge...Ill tackle that this weekend. I hate a leaky system....its a pet peeve since it wastes so much nitrous.

Where can I find the seals and the leak detector (what's the products real name)? Would Home Depot have this stuff?

Home Depot would probably have the leak detector. Its more or less soapy water that will bubble up for a visual indication of a leak. I have also used Fantastic as well. The SECO seals...hmmm. Look in the phone book for any place that sells pnuematic and hydraulic lines. But you may not even need these. They are more for when you have a damaged fitting.....most leaks can be taken care of by cleaning and retightening the line. Dont forget to check the entire length od braided hose...have had many leak right in the middle of the hose before.

Top...I like remote openers...but If you have a leak in your lines you should still attempt to fix them. A remote opener will not cure leakdown completely if you still have leaks. Every time you open the bottle remotely it fills the lines. Close it again and whats in the lines leaks out. Open it again and it will fill the lines again..etc. Wont be as fast...but it will still be wasting substantial amounts of nitrous.
