NOS at highway speed??
Im a newbie so please excuse me if my question is dumb. I am interested in a dry Nitrous setup but not for 1/4 mile times. Im interested in engaging it at highway speeds - would that work? Im hoping that it would mean less stress on my clutch and soforth, is that correct also? I would assume it would cause less stress on my car if I was already moving vs launching for a 1/4 mile run.
Thanks in advance!
Can anyone else think of other items that may apply?
Spray only above 3000 rpm to 5800 rpm...like what the other guy said.
Never spray for more then 15 seconds max! Any longer and your pistons are melting. That is more then I would even spray it with stock pistons. NOS said no more then 15, heck I say no more then 13 tops!
Can't stress this enough....forget about nitrous for spraying on the highway. Get a blower, or do some head/cam work. Your just gonna BBQ your pistons.
I dont reccomend using it on the higway. But if you must here is my best idea for engine safety:

I have sprayed it for probably about 14 seconds before (starting from a stop) and my pistons looked fine.
Has anyone ever tried a EGT?
Think ill skip the NOS and put the money towards the motor or a turbo/supercharger. I have a 2002 Z28.
Thanks for the advice guys.

i am no expert but here are a few things that i have learned on this board. nitrous cools the intake charge, a blower heats the intake charge. with nitrous if you make 100hp you get 100hp, with a blower you need to make more than 100hp to get 100hp because you have to run the blower.

why exactly would a 100shot of nitrous melt a piston if used over 15sec and a blower giving you 100hp not? as long as you keep your rpms up and the fuel flowing i would bet my engine that you could dump a 20lb bottle in there all in one long shot.

A blower or Turbo can toast a motor just as quick as nitrous if its not setup properly. The only difference I see with nitrous is the application is non linear like a supercharger. Hitting in in a high gear like 5th at too low of an RPM for too long is a problem. Think about the nitrous flow VS engine RPM. If your spraying a 150 shot...its a constant 150 wether your at 3000 rpm or 6000 rpm. Obviously the cylinder pressure and Tq will be sky high in the lower rpms. It would be the equivilant of a supercharger giving 20 lbs of boost at 3000 rpm and tapering off to 10 lbs at 6000. This is why I am going with some type of progressive controller soon. Actually I am really liking the Venom system. It does everything to mimic a naturally aspirated power curve....just higher.
