Took the car to the track for the first time on the bigger shot. Melted 2 plugs on the first pass. In the video you can see the car spit out 3 small pieces of glowing hot metal which I assume is the ground straps of #5 and #8 plugs. Compression and leak down test came back OK so thankfully I dont think I hurt the motor. Question is what do you guys think was wrong with my tune-up / setup?
408ci
13:1 Compression
Carb'd
E85
28* on motor
13* on spray
28N 28F direct port (250hp)
950psi N2O
6psi Fuel
NGK BR7EF
11.8-12.0AFR's on spray
Alright then I guess I'll throw 9's at it and leave everything else alone.
Once you swap plugs be sure to read them because you may be able to put some timing back in it. I figured you had so much timing out to combat the heat from the plug?

Yea it looks like the timing mark is well above the bend to me. OP compression like you have generates a lot more cylinder pressure = heat and then you add nitrous to the mix= more cylinder pressure & heat than a lower compression motor so it requires an even colder plug.
Are you getting any oil in the combustion chamber? I don't have e85 experience so I can't comment on that. But I do feel you need -9 also.
Not much if any. This motor does have some blow-by but it has since the initial fire. No smoke out the exhaust so I chalked it up to the .034" end gaps.

I pulled all the timing the MSD 6010 would let me (15*) just to be safe for the first hit on the 250. I didn't even think about plug choice. I have made over 950rwhp with boost and E85 on BR7's with no issues before. I didn't do my research this time around, I fucked up, that's why I am here lol.

Thanks for the info man.

7s ran great on motor. No problems even with a 100 hit. Didnt even snap about changing plugs for a bigger hit.

Those plugs are nasty but take some brake clean and see if you can wash the black off the smooth base of the plug.
Also did you upgrade the pistons in those fuel solenoids to work with E85?
Dave
What am I looking for on the base of the plug?
I had no idea the pistons needed an upgrade for E85, tell me more.
I am guessing like most things E85 related those pistons in the noids can deteriorate over time when they come in contact with E85. Kinda like it does to older rubber fuel line. Just my .02
