So....was it worth it to add nitrous???
1990 Lincoln Town Car 5.0, the ONLY change to the car was I swapped in an X-cam, mustang posi, and 3.55 gears from the stock 3.27.
No tuning, no valve springs, no colder plugs, not SQUAT else. I ran Hoosier Quick Time DOT radials on some $55/ea Cragar Soft 8 wheels. I bought the hoosiers for $60 from another racer who went to slicks.
Started out on dry shot. 55 pill. Went from 11.21 to 10.13. Never burnt a SINGLE spark plug. Increased the nitrous pill to 73, went from 10.13 to 9.97. bear in mind all my times are for the 1/8th mile. Wired in the fuel solenoid with a 21 pill. 9.97 to 9.51..
GETTING CLOSER.... Swapped fuel from 21 to 32, went 8.88 in a 4600 pound car with driver...
I came back to the pits, friend told me the time ( no time slips given at the time ) and I jumped up and down for about 5 minutes (at the time I weighed 320)...
My nitrous bottle sat in the passenger seat right beside me with a seatbelt holding it squished into the seat bottom and back. NOW, I cringe at that idea from days ago...
But my poor old lead sled heavy *** air suspension Lincoln with 3.55 gears and a mustang posi, and also a burnt transmission, would just flat haul butt.. Transmission held up to drag racing going forwards, but had NO REVERSE!! I tried to tow it home from the track and the transmission would actually start turning over the engine at about 20 miles per hour. So I had to pull over and remove the driveshaft.
SO yeah, the nitrous was definitely a FY at that time. Now it is waiting its turn in my S-10 as I try to get it completed before april.
