Default Where to set timing.

I keep seeing ~4 degrees taken out for a 100 shot but is that from a stock timing chart or anyones current? Im running 27* at wot. Far from stock timing on my ly6. Back when it was a 4.3 v6 I pulled the timing off the tuned map I think. Its been 4 years so I want to make sure since this is the year that I finally return to nitrous.

What are you pulling timing with?

For reference i'm running 28* at WOT, and pulled 3 degrees on my 100 shot. Seems to work perfectly

I am running 22* timing with my set up with a 125 shot, gained 15 hp on motor when changed from 28* to run nitrous on a dynojet.

Read the plugs rather than guess

Reading plugs, unlike checking the afr which should be done on cyl 7 because its ussually the hottest and leanest can i check the timing on any plug? Or check on all? Cylinders 5 and 7 I have to remove the steering shaft to get to which is a bit tough if Im doing this after shutting down right after a run at the track and im just on the side of the return lane.

Normally we state from a "stock timing" , just to get everyone on the same page, then you can tune back into it from there.

Its best to pull all 8 first and find out where your lean and hot cylinders are. Usually those two cylinders will stay the same unless you change intake setups or change to much bigger nitrous jet. With different intakes, plates, nozzles, etc number 7 may not be your leanest cylinder. Last week I was tuning a race car for example with a single stage plate on a 200 shot and 1 & 2 were the leanest two cylinders on that particular car.

On my mast motorsports 4500 intake 1&2 are my hottest also. This is with a plate. Whatever you think pull 2 extra. If you get the tune up right on 100 and then slowly increase you will be golden.
