Angry Timing Tuner Works ok Now

Well I tried auto tapping my timing tuner tonight, ran 2 runs with out the n2o activated,to make sure of where my timing is,Then flipped the switch with the bottle off had it set for 5 degrees of retard on the RTD switch both Base and WOT timing are at 0.Guess what my timing was the same!Boy I sure am glad I didnt just run the nitrous. So what did I do wrong? The check lights are working right. So why didnt it pull timing out?

The timing wont show being changed using auto tap or any kind of scanner, put it at 15 degrees retard and activate it - if its working you will feel it.

The timing tuner alters the signal after the PCM, so it won't show up on ATAP.

The timing tuner pulls timing while fooling the stock PCM into thinking it's still got full control of timing.

Only if you pull timing by programming will you see it on ATAP.

Actually it alters the signal before the PCM, if it altered the timing after the the PCM it would have to be hooked to the coils

Its before, since it the crank sensor is before the PCM (thats where its hooked to) it obviously isnt after the PCM. It alters the signal from the crank sensor, the PCM doesnt 'know' anything is being altered therefore the timing according to a scanner wont be changed. Right from the manual:

The unit installs ‘in-line’ with the crankshaft
sensor wiring and alters the signal that is received by the PCM (Powertrain
Control Module, ‘engine computer’). By shifting the crankshaft signal
ahead or behind in time the spark timing in the engine is changed.

Since its also a window switch its hooked to the nitrous relay and thats what activates it.

You need to not post topic sentences like "Timing Tuner works for ****"...when you don't know what your talking about. Your essentially bashing a product that you don't understand and may not have hooked right. You may give some poeple who are looking at using this tool a misconception. If you need help with these things, there are pleanty of forum members to help. I have the timing tuner and it works fine. Nitrous is a great way to go fast, but with all the electronic stuff we need it can be frustrating! But when you post topic like this it can be misleading to others...

SDB You are correct,I dont know anything about this thing and I am not trying to mislead people,But I do know it works now because my tuner mistakenly put my n2o tune back in the car and it was kind of a dog.I put it 5 deg adv and WHAHoo ,It woke it right up!I do know it works. When I made the false n2o run it didnt show up on my A-Tap so I thought it wasnt working when it was.But Thanks to you SDB and Marlowchris it does work, otherwise I would still be trying to figure out what the nitrous relay is

Pro Mouse

If the Timing Tuner works now as it was intended then you should edit your subject line to something more appropriate.
