Default Tune & Plugs Help!

Planning on spraying nitrous on my 6.0. I have ARP bolts throughout the motor, including rod bolts. The 6.0 has forged pistons, stock rods, stock crank. I am purchasing NGK BR8ES plugs, and wanted to know if dropping two degrees per timing for every 50 shot of nitrous is safe? I want to spray 200 shot. Other info on the car:

2000 s10
super victor
750 holley
a1000 fuel pump
ford 9 inch
turbo 400 w brake
3800 jegs nitrous converter.

Went 11.7 my first time out in the track NA with a 3000 stall nitrous converter. 1.89 60ft

I have an older MSD 6010, and I am running 110 octane. Maybe bump up to c16

You should be fine on 110. But, the 2 degree per 50 shot is a good place to start. I would go just a degree, maybe 2 past that. You will want to dial in air and fuel first.

Just a question, have you ever used nitrous? If you are pretty new to it, I would start low with a 100 shot to get a feel for what the motor wants. I would use a 6 or 7 heat range plug for that, then work up to the 200-250 you want to hit it with.

Doing it this way will also help you get more info on a broad range of the spectrum so you can make quick changes down the road if you need to dial it back, or throw more at it later.

My dads been messing with nitrous since the 80s but he’s new to ls engines and I just wanted a base timing. Took me four years to build this truck and yeah iTs my first nitrous build personally.

Should I run a 7 plug or an 8?

Okay cool. Yeah, like I said. Start out with a lower shot to get yourself more acquainted with it. Having someone that is familiar with it is helpful.

With that said, for the 200 shot, I would pull 9 or 10 and get the air/fuel dialed in. Then, once the fuel jet is happy, creep up on the timing by a half degree at a time. With 110 and if the motor is healthy, then I am sure you will end up around 7 or 8 out.

Just remember to not get greedy with timing. More people ruin their engines from going too rich and greedy with timing. When it comes down to it, you are basically tuning an NA engine.

This is also the reason for dialing in air/fuel and then timing. Never chase one with the other (ie. too rich, throw another degree at it... now its too lean so you throw more fuel at it...etc etc).. NEVER do that.

For a 200 shot, an 8 may be necessary.. Once again, you will need to see what it likes. See if there is too much heat in the plug, and if there is, then move to a step colder plug.

^^This is all spot on, from what I have learned...
I'm no expert tuner(but my guy is evidently) ... I'm spraying a SBE 6.0 (on 110) with 200 on a 7 plug and ended up at 18* (FOR COMPARISON PURPOSES ONLY).

Took it back to the track Saturday NA. Did one pass and let off. It lifted the front tires a bit leaving at 3800rpms, let off and got back into it. Went 7.52 to the 1/8 ...

When I went for a second pass I didn’t leave the line. I had a lowering block on the car and it expanded when I launched causing the rear end to shift up which broke my drive shaft and the drive shaft broke one of my caltracs lmao .

Put a 4.11 gear in, went to a local track (barely prepped) and ran a 7.1 1.64 60ft. Hoping to go to street kings and run a high 6s all motor!

Putting blocks in the rear and planning to race isn't a smart move as you found out. Adds to the leverage on the spring perch.

Why 110 ? What's the compression ?

Is it a stand along system ?

As above, 2* per 50 is basic starting point, and starting low (100-125) to work your way up.

Compression should be 11.5.1 and yeah I did not expect that to happen lol. I have a fuel cell in the back, and an a1000 fuel pump. Thank you, I’m not going to spray for a bit still need to learn the truck.
