Default My GMC Sierra Nitrous Install

Wanting to add a 100 shot to the truck with around 8,000 miles since I rebuilt the engine in 2018.

LQ9 sbe,
PRC 225 heads,
TSP v4 Torquer (231/234 .629" .615" 111*)
Smith Bronze Trunnion,
TBSS with a 92mm Nick Williams,
Speed Engineering 1-7/8 & Tru-Duals,
Performabuilt 4L60, 3200 stall, 4.10's

__________________________________________________ __

Nitrous Express 90mm Plate System (20934-10)

The second bottle came today,
it's time for the old man to get back out in the garage... Is 63 old

Already had the bottle bracket mounted...

Pulled back the sticky velcro holding the BedRug to the beds bulkhead. Step drilled a 7/8 hole in the bed floor, ran the 6-AN feedline and buttoned up the hole with a 7/8 rubber grommet to prevent chafing the line. Ran the feed down the right side frame rail securing with zip-ties. Ran new velcro on the bulkhead and re-stuck the BedRug.

Installed the bottles in the dual bracket, not sure If I'm going to Y them both together as the cost of a second bottle opener, heater etc. is around $600 (I'll probably change my mind) Truck is street only so I'll just swap the bottles when one gets low.

Finished the plumbing except for the purge system (arriving Friday). Used some aluminum sparkplug wire looms to keep the fuel and n2o lines from flopping about. Went ahead and added the 75 shot jets as a starting point.

Next on the list is wiring the system.

Still needing remote bottle opener, bottle heater, pressure gauges, RPM window switch, switch panel that replaces the airbag switch (arm, purge, heater, opener).

Anyone have ideas of how to secure the bottles against theft? I'd like to stop and pickup some beer or whatever for a few minutes, I know these open bottles are an invitation for someone to ripoff. I was thinking of a pair of handcufs around the bottle necks and the bottle bracket... I can handle the issue if I can slow them down enough. 99% of n20 installs are hidden and theft is not an issue.

Cut out the bottom of a toolbox big enough to cover the tanks, lock the lid, and secure it to the bed so that you need to unlock the lid to get at the attaching points.
Just an idea.....

G atsma , idea would work good. If you just want simple peace of mind. Change bottle hold down fastners with some wierd reverse torx head nuts. That should bide you enough time to pull out your .357 .....

What about a bed cover? Either a soft type cover or something like a folding cover? They are usually bolt in and don't do any permanent damage like a Hard Tonneau cover.

I've seen that done before and it works well. I'm looking for something not so permanent or anything to drastically change the current trucks look.

Maybe machine a razor thin groove for embedded razor blades in the thumb wheels lol. I'm currently either a .45 or 9mm carry guy (SC CWP 12 years). I'm not the hot headed type to pull on someone over $500 in bottles, $275 remote opener and a $250 bottle heater. Although that equals over a $1000... my state of SC has a high threshold for a felony theft (grand larceny) charge set at $2000 for theft.

That may be the best option as in the summers heat the bottles can't be in direct sunlight. My brother in law has the bak flip on his 99 Silverado along with a BedRug and loves his setup. I'd hate to have to remove the tailgate spoiler to fit a cover, I'm an old school redneck that likes that old 70's muscle car look

Oh by the way I shot the base/clear on the tailgate/spoiler in my gravel driveway with a cheap $10 Harbor Freight HVLP gun

With spoiler...

For the time being I'm going to try a set of Peerless (700c-6x) chain handcuffs to lock around the bottle(s) necks looping through the bottle bracket. These cuffs minimum opening is a little big at 2" and the bottle neck is 1-11/16". I found some "handcuff helpers" to make the opening smaller. I guess they're made for skinny crackhead women with little wrists

On a creepy side note... searching for handcuffs on the internet... 80% of returns is BDSM bondage ****...
Google probably has me on their A list for sickos now... I feel I need a shower

Plumbed in the nitrous purge solenoid today. Removed the cowl panel then drilled two holes for grommets, one for the control wires and one for the purge tube. Running the wires through the cowl then exiting near the battery will help for a clean install. Next I'm going to build a relay panel for the solenoids, heater and opener using a dedicated fuse block and bus bar to power the accessories.

Finished building the relay panel today.

Thinking about mounting it where the battery box is located on the Duramax GMT-800 trucks.

Sourced a piece of Lexan from an old small form factor (SFF) computer I built years ago called the Ice Cube...

I never throw good junk away lol

Looks like the install is coming along nicely! Would be even sweeter with a stock style muffler with electric cutouts so when you roll up to someone at a light, they have no idea. Then you hit the cutouts and purge the nitrous, and come up on the converter...

Anyways, you planning to take this to the drag strip now that you are going to be spraying it?

I've been thinking about taking it to the track. Last time I was at the drag strip was 1978 in my 2dr 1957 Chevrolet lol. That day I lost most of the friction materiel on the clutch and had to limp home about 20 miles. It was nerve racking to say the least having to kill the engine at stop lights then use the starter motor in gear to lurch start without the clutch to get her going again. The closest track to me now is a good 35 miles away so I'll need a way to haul the truck if I do.

The new secondary battery tray arrived today. Used four 3mm screws, washers and nuts to secure the relay panel to the tray. Removing the upper fender brace will allow easy access to the terminals when needed. Ordered plenty of wire 10AWG, 12AWG,14AWG, 18AWG, 10 Gauge 40A fuse holders, Brass battery side post extensions to get started on the wiring. Also got the NOS Mini 2 progressive controller today.

Well you convinced me... what's another thousand dollars... sheesh lol

Bakflip MX4 install was about 30min no issues. The panel assembly is 70lbs so I was cautious setting them on the rails to not scratch the paint. Not to bad for a crippled up one legged 64 year old redneck

Bought the Pop & Lock for the tailgate. Scuffed it up and color matched with some rattle base/clear. Little dark... I'll shoot some PPG Deltron the next time I mix a cup (need catalyst for the clear). Enough security to keep a sorta honest man still honest.

Yeah they are proud of it... the rounded corners are a new feature and look better than mine.

What does the lock actually catch on to stop the handle from moving?
