Default At what temp is a n2o bottle unsafe?

Guys,

So I am building a rx7/Ls1 and will be running a NX wet kit. 100 shot.

The car is black, and I live in the Mojave Desert, where it will get to 117 on a hot day. Thats upwards of 150 in the car. I a grey car, I once had a can of soda explode, it gets that hot.

Do I need to be concerned with a n20 bottle at that temp? What can I do to be sure? Would it be a good idea to never fill it to 100%?

Thanks!

-Jason

If I remember correcly the rupture discs on the bottle valve should pop at around 2200-2500psi. In 100* temps with my bottle in direct sunlight (with a bottle blanket) I saw about 1500psi with the car closed up for the day. If it where me, I would probrably take the bottle out of the car while it's parked.

As far as sitting in the car allday I couldnt tell you. Id call NX and see what they say. Nx does have that Fire & Ice that keeps bottle pressure within a 5psi window. It cools when it needs to and warns when it needs to! You could always just leave that on!

Actually I thought that the rupture disks were set to about 3000 psi. I might be wrong though.

I can tell you one thing, it sure is exciting when the blow. I still haven't gotten all of the stains out of that pair of underwear.

I would start expecting it to release at about 1500psi and if you have a blowdown tube it isnt much of a problem, just the loss of your nitrous..

I've had mine up to 2200 in the sun one day and had to get ice bag to cool it but it didn't empty.
Not to mention I remove the bottle when not needed.

i would go with the, just dont leave it in your car during the day idea. you shoulding be spraying your car in 117 degree weather anyway. just put the bottle in when you are going to run. my car is black also but i live in south texas were it normally gets in the 90s. i leave my bottle in there all the time and have not have a problem yet but this is no dessert so i would not know what to tell you. personally i have been to the mojave dessart before and it is no where near as hot as the chiuhaha(spelling) dessert along the rio grand river in the middle of the summer. now thats hot.

In you guys opinion is the blow down tube with the saftey regulator flawless? I have a truck(dont hate me) and I really wanted to mount it in the bed but I dont want a ton cover and were I live it isnt safe in the open anywhere so Ive been considering in the cab. The only reason I didnt want to do in the cab is it just feels safer not being in the cab. Should I be being a bitch about this or with the reg and blow down tube I should be cool??????????????????

just mount a tool box on it and install the bottle inside of it. or make some kind of box in the bed that has to be open with a key. i would not be scared to put it inside the cab if you have a blow down tube but there is not too much space in a truck for a bottle.

Most discs have the rupture psi on them, it's engraved really small. All mine are 3000 psi. FWIW I've had full bottles in my car on days that only got to high 90's and I saw temps up around 2000 psi. So I'm sure yours will let go. Also the rupture disc get weaker with time if they are heated up over and over. What might have been a 3000 psi disc when it was new could be much lower once it's seen high pressures over and over.

I have room to mount a 10# in my ext cab under the ext cab seat! I really dont want to do the tool box or cusotm box becuase I like the clean look!. We get in the mid 90s on average in the summer here so I could always remove it on a crazy hot day! What would you guys do? Cab or bed? Also as far as bottle rupture all I have to worry about is heat and then maybe replace thew burst disc after a while if in constant heat alot right?
