Default what happens when you spray on an empty bottle?

Just curious (wet kit) say you spray and you dont pay attention to bottle pressure, and it goes empty during a run. Does it just continue to spray fuel only?

Just curious?

Good thread - I was wondering the same thing about any damage that may be caused. Will this cause backfiring or anything?

If your nitrous is low or out and you spray it could hurt the engine. Most people notice the lack of power or it just does not feel right long before that could ever happens.
Most of the time it just stumbles, backfires a bit, run like crap, etc.

So lets look at the extreme spray no nitrous. The fuel will collect between the top and second ring. After a period of time that fuel will ignite and cause you to lift a ring land. Now you have a high spot, detenation is on its way. Piston breaks, puts a hole in the cylinder wall, screws the head up, and give syou one hell of a back fire.
Now this is the most extreme. This is also why you should always start with you mfg jetting. And always know how much nitrous is in your bottle.
I do not want to scare anybody, but alot of people think a rich condition is better then lean. It depend on the extremeness of it.

yeah, it will just load up with fuel. its not advisable in any situation to spray with less then 900psi in the bottle. why would you anyway?

I wasn't talking about intentionally spraying it with low pressure - I meant say you start a run with 1000lbs and the bottle runs low during the run. I am new to all this, so I didn't know if it happens quickly, or you know it is coming and refill.

No problem if you start runing low pressure, youll start to feel it bog or surge. Leaving the bottle off, now that can cause problems if you stay in it. Ask FLower how his Viper liked the wayyyyy rich

That's what happened?!? Yeh, that was bad on pistons!

was just trying to get an idea what you feel or see and how quickly it happens, so I will know it and back out of it if it happens during a run.

it doesnt happen quickly at all. dont try to learn from TFnTF, how they "save the spray for later" so they dont waste it. you wont run out unless youre drag racing for miles or have a 1lb bottle. a typical 10lb bottle can last for anywhere from 12 to 25 runs depending on the shot and if you have a heater (definate must have). so unless youre really low and you cooked the bottle just to get it up to pressure, you wont run out.

I have a NX efi kit & NX warmer, will it get up to pressure if it is empty or will the pressure be lower than normal?

What? No way you are going to get 12 to 25 passes out of a 10Lb bottle no matter how you have it jetted. On a 150 HP shot I would get an average of 6 1/8th mile passes and still have some left. with a 300 HP shot I use 1/2 a bottle(5LBS) in one 1/4 mile pass. If you get 12 to 25 passes your bottle is not open.

You flood the cylinders with fuel, on a wet system.

5-hp shot I think. My 275 2-stage would kill a 10# bottle in 2 passes. I could usually make a 1-stage pass on what was left.

As what happens when you spray w/o anything in the tank, the answer is simple. YOU GET BEAT.

If your running a dry kit nothing is going to happen, no stumbling, no intake/hood removal, in fact, run it till it's empty if you want, no problem.

On a dry? It uses the maf/computer to add additional fuel accroding to the amount: density/velocity, of the n20 coming in. So, if your putting little/none n20 the computer puts little/none extra fuel. This is one of the reasons I like dry very, very safe especially with redundant noids. Wet, yes a problem, as you have no way to adjust the amount of fuel according to bottle weight/ press/temp and yes, good bye intake/hood, sometimes.
