Default NOS LS1 Kit

I am planning on putting the the NOS kit that goes in thru the air box in the summer. I was just wondering if anyone who uses or used thought of it. Is it a good set up.

I forgot to ask, can use a aftermarket air box whith this kit or do you need to use the factory Box.

I started with the 5177. It's a great kit especially if your new to nitrous. It's simple, reliable, and safe. It will work fine with almost all aftermarket lids (lids with flatter sides work alittle better for the install). If you havn't looked into a window switch you might want to.

I agree with both freaky nipples and GM Muscle with one additional comment. 5177 is very versitle starter kit, has everything needed to get started and later you can add the NOS wet conversion, or you can split the redundant solenoids into a dual stage dry (I recommend two more solenoids), or you can remove jets all together for up to about a 180hp shot (with injector/pump upgrade), or you can add a full companion wet kit for a ***** to the walls second stage. You would be hard pressed to find someone who hurt thier motor running a 5177 dry (exception: maxing injectors out and running lean).

So what is the chance of maxing the injectors and leaning out the motor on a 125 shot. I'm really leaning toward this kit.

I think if this is one of your only aftermarket mods, you'll be pretty safe. I don't know what year your ls1 is, but the fuel pump and injectors will usually handle up to ~450rwhp safely. I started with the 5177 kit. I especially liked how it didn't hit the drivetrain so hard that you roasted the tires EVERY time. A window switch should seriously be considered too.

I think 2000 had the smaller 26lb injectors ( someone correct me if wrong), so I would limit dry to 100hp with your mods. I would also think about a dyno tune (a/f) for safety's sake. If 28lb injectors 125hp would probably be ok, with a/f check.

Yeap I use this kit with an open filter element FIPK (shooting from front plate).
Right now I modified it into a dual dry stage (^ to 250 shots).
On 28.8 injectors, I shot no jets on stock tune but with race gas, 11.2 1/4 was my best (stock internals, just minor bolt ons)
One of the most complete and versatile kit to use. The best dry kit for sure.

I have a 98 Z28, is anything else I should consider other than a window switch? Also how does the window switch work?

A window switch uses adjustable "pills" to regulate a "window" that an accessory can be on. For example: If you used 3000 rpm and 6200 rpm pills, that would be the window that the kit could be activated. Typically 3000 is a minimum to keep from flooding the intake with too much nitrous at low air velocities. Upper should be set a few hundred rpms below your shift points on a stock transmission.

MSD Released a digital window switch, so no more pills! Thunderracing.com has them I think.

My car is all stock, I plan on adding exhaust before I add nitrous, I was just wondering if would be safe to run a 125 shot. Do you have to start at 75 and work your way up?
