Got in an Argument with machine shop guy

Default Got in an Argument with machine shop guy

I stopped by the machine stop today to check out the progress of my machine work. The guy that's working my stuff wasn't there. So i told another guy that was there to make sure he told my guy that i wanted the compression around 11:1 with the new forged pistons. He asked what i was planning on doing and i told him about the spray. Then he went on and on about how you cann't spray with compression that high. He processed to pull out a book that looked about 15 years old. Reading it out of the book, he said compression has to be like 9.5:1 to spray more than 100 shot. I just looked at the guy and told him just to make sure he told my guy.
I was told by acouple people that running that compression well be fine, just have to get it set-up right. I'm not 100% true about it and i just wanted to make sure because it's been getting to me. So, is it fine to run a dual stage wet kit(100+150) with 11:1 compression with the set-up? Thanks

These guys are right, N20 loves compression. Maybe it's time to take your work to a shop that's living in '05.

Oh yeah Nitrous loves compression. My 408 has a 13:1 compression ratio and I run a 300 shot. I make 723 RWHP, just make sure the guy that told you that doesn't build your motor and stick to your guns, you'll be fine with the right set up and tune. Btw, I'm gettin ready to throw a 400 shot at it, tell him to put that in his pipe and smoke it.

Machinist doesnt = knowledgeable engine builder. There is a difference.

Have a conversation with your engine builder. If it doesn't look like it's going to pan out, grab your stuff and go somewhere more capable of understanding the implications of a high compression motor and nitrous.

I agree with these guys, you are better dealing with somebody that knows nitrous engines or that will atleast listen to somebody that does. I have engines out there with over 15 to 1 comp. and 400+ shot. The eastside guys will agree with that.

Thanks for all the comments, i dunno if the guy i talked to does anything to the motors. Everytime I've went in there he's just been setting at a desk or watching someone. I went to this place for the guy i'm working with, i've heard good things about him and he is a nice guy. My guy is only doing the machine work and putting the bottem-end together because i've never done that part before and i don't want to take a chance. Thanks again for clearing this up for me!
