Sprayed a 75 shot of nos on a brand new 346, but the fuel solenoid did not open. Motor surged, but kept running. Plugs were still in tact, need a boroscope to check for any piston damage. Sent the solenoid back to the manufacturer. Textbook case showing NOS dangers.

I've considered going back to a dry shot, but it also has risks such as a solenoid stuck open. Should have just built a bigger motor.

Yea, that's about the only thing that can go wrong on a dry. That's why I run redundant n2o noids on each of my stages. The chances of two noids sticking open at the same time is about 0.

 

dual nitrous noids is worth paying the extra $ for the added insurance...

P.S. Please dont refer to nitrous as "NOS" it disturbs me...

You can run a fpss after the fuel noid which triggers the N2O noid. This won't work with progressive controllers, but works great if you are running a plain system. Eliminates the risk of the fuel noid not working.

 

I know plenty of big time racers that call it that...and they did well before the stupid *** fast and furious movies.

Yepper...old time N.O.S. user here and believer in that the N.O.S. brand is the only way to go. Although we just installed a T.N.T. kit on a Z06...hahaha.

Did you do the quick 16 yesterday in the Bicklebird?

 

Well, the tune was a little rich and I've done a leak down test, and pulled and replaced the plugs, and will check the cylinders this week with a boroscope, and if it's hurt, it's apparently not hurt very badly.

I like 860 Performance's suggestion of a FPSS that activates the NO2 solenoid. There has to be a way to ensure that extra fuel will be delivered if the NO2 solenoid opens.

Blake is in Mexico with his lady, so we couldn't race yesterday. We'll race in Douglas, WY next weekend.

 

If I build a 5.0 motor, it will be 760 cid and I'll put it in our new Bickel 2006 GTO!

I agree with testing solenoids, but this is a street car where the NO2 is always on. I need a reliable setup for the street, like a setup where the fuel has to be flowing out of the solenoid before the NO2 solenoid gets its signal, or . . .

 

Who refered to n2o as nos? If your talking about my sig, when you capitalize letters in a row that means it's an abbriviation. Most also know that 5177 means an NOS dry kit. I'll try not to disturb you in the future.

 

He's referring to Bickel's post. However, someone who owns a Bickel firebird, IMO, can call nitrous whatever the hell they want. N.O.S. is still the Number 1 manufacturer and seller of kits, so it's N.O.S. for me...as always.

Brad Klein at dream chaser has offered to build me a FI 760 with a 5 speed Liberty behind a Bruno, in effect, a 5 speed automatic for my GTO; 6.50 would be no problem!

 

I know it's sloppy to use NO2 and NOS interchangably, but all that matters is that you know that I'm referring to nitrous oxide. Technically, these wet kit soleniods were made by NX and my dry kit solenoids by NOS.

 

6.50's would be doable. You could spray that and run low 6's too.
