i do it, but i have a hot bow so if i do it it is only to get the bottle up a few pounds, so its a fast heat up.
i will be getting a new dynotune bottle heater tho once the black one comes out. the heater somtimes has a hard time keeping up when its 50 out sie, but with the hot box holding the bottle at 1,000 psi, the heater will do a fine job i think.

but the tourch is very scary, however, i know many many people use these!

I agree you should probably only torch heat carbon fiber bottles.

I have been working with compressed gases since 1987 and every once in a while you will hear these sad storys of guys getting maimed or killed from things like this. High pressure tires is another dangerous thing

You can get bottle heaters these days from places like Dynotune.org (sponsor here) for like $59. Get a radio shak relay and some cheap wire and a $1.99 switch and your done.
I know it's not safe, but it's really the only way to get the damn pressure up! I have a bottle heater and it sucks ***, when I first got it, I left it on on a 15 minute drive and my bottle went from like 850 - 950, I mean c'mon who the hell has a half an hour to leave their bottle heater on to heat the thing to 1100+!

PS - I'm not tryin to be a dick, I just hate that the stupid bottle heater doesn't work and that I have to torch my bottle, cuz obviously it's a little dangerous and kind of scares me everytime I hit it with the torch. I try and make sure i'm constantly making sweeping motions with it though as to not overheat one area to try and make it a little safer.

Thats why i use a Nitrogen push system. It takes just afew seconds to bring up botle pressure...well...actually....it nevers drops down

Heaters work. Yes they can be slow when your bottle is getting low. But you can do things to help out. Like get a quality heater and use a bottle blanket. The blankets works wonders in conjuction with a heater.

As far as the torch goes....yeah it works too. But youll never hear me recomend it to someone...especially on a national website with tons of people reading. Thats all we need is some newb's putting a torch on thier list of "must have items" for thier new nitrous kit .
The torch method is just stacking the cards up in the wrong direction when it comes to safety. Just look at the potential worst case scenario....using a torch adds significantly to the probability you will have a bottle rupture in your face. Its just over the threshold for me on safety VS convienance.

On the bottle heaters, a 300watt heater (NOS/Dyno-Tune) will heat a bottle in 80% of the time it takes a 240watt heater (NX/ ? ). I have mine wired up so if I want to start the heating process before I leave to the drags, I can do.
Also, like stated, after I installed a bottle blanket my bottle came to pressure quicker and stayed at constant level/heat longer.

100 psi in 15 minutes is pretty good when its cold out.
i have my bottle mounted in the t-top comparment and let me tell ya, when the trunk lid is closed and the privacy flap is also close, pretty much enclosing the bottle, it retains the heat in there. sometimes i dont even need a heater, just driving around the pressure goes up susbtantially due to the heat that builds up in there. maybe its because its so close to the exhaust.

Doesnt matter if its safe or not....if you go to a track and heat your bottle with a torch they will kick you out. You need a warmer.

I agree 100%.

It's one of those things that people have been, and will keep on, doing. I bet at least 90% of the "old school farts" at our local track I've seen using torches, and they have $100k+ cars!

On the street it's extremely common. There are a lot of things that "can" be dangerous, and I'm sure if you stood holding a torch to any pressurized alum. bottle in the same spot for 10min. it's gonna blow. But there's no way you're gonna F anything up if you use some damn sense.

Just like when nitrous itself started getting really popular, how many guys did we have making posts like, "NO, don't put nitrous on your car it'll blow up! My friends brothers sisters dads son put it on his car and a piston flew out and killed an old lady two blocks away!"

Dont like it? Don't do/promote it. Scared/unsure of it? Don't do it.

But don't go around saying everyone who does do it is an idiot.

Yeah, that's why i'm selling it!!!!

But seriously, I said all heaters in general, not just this heater, there's nothing wrong with the heater, just takes a long time to heat like they all do! So if you want to go the heater route and not use a torch it's urs, let me know.
