Default Nitrous Ignorance

Hey me and a couple friends were talking and i was telling them about how i am going to add a NX MAF 100 shot to my 99 SS M6. They keep telling me that i am goign to blow my motor. I know that i need to get the proper safety equipment like a window switch and a WOT switch, but besides those, what else do i need? What parts of mine will i have to change out? I want to run as much nitrous as possible without blowing my motor or causing a lot of damage as this is my daily driver. I also want to go with nitrous because i want it to idle stock, appear stock, and still keep my gas mileage. So basically my question is, what, if any, safety devices and parts would i need to change out in order to keep my engine running safely? Thanks - Josh

lol...you will be fine. Start with a 100 shot and you will be very safe, Window switch and WOT switch are a good start. You could get a fuel pressure safety switch as well if you want to. And some NGK TR6 plugs.

Just let your buddies keep talking about you blowing up...and when you race them time after time after time and woop them by bus lenghts without any problems....they may get the picture.

Al, Said it best...

The funny thing is that after they see you doing it and going fast they will be not to far behind you on using nitrous.

i think your friends are trying to scare you off because they wont be able to keep up if you get that kit, hell some people are running 200+shots and doing great with them

you guys need to worry about tires....not blowing your **** up...

they are still living in the myth world that thinks nitrous damages motors...its not the nitrous..its the install or lack there of. get the giggle juice and dont tell em...let them find out the hard way you got it.

I like Vinny's idea of getting new friends, haha. Really though, just get the system and install it without telling them anything. Like TNTRamair said, they will find out the hard way. Just remember to get their reactions on video when they start bitching and moaning about how bad you beat them and that you didn't say anything about having nitrous (this is where they will say you cheated, haha.)

It would also be a good idea to retard the total timing by 4 degrees and close the plug gap .008 closer if runnig a 100 shot.

hypertech allows you to retard timing but honestly if you plan on modding cam ect. Get hp tuners and start reading up on how to tune if you do it right and spend some time you can get it to idle like its stock even with a cam. If you dont plan on moding more they sell timming tuners that you can wire to the system and run lower timing on nitrous but set it back to normal when your not on nitrous.

Timing Tuner is the coolest little product for nitrous cars...its awsome. works like a dream. id recommend it strongly b/c it allows you to have a good N/A tune and when the nitrous hits it pulls the timing so your car wont ever feel sluggish like if its constantly on a nitrous tune.

You are on the stock tune.... there is no reason to worry about retarding timing....You'll be just fine with the stock timing. Add the usual safety devices as mentioned, including one step colder plugs, Id gap em about 40...

Up to 150hp you shouldn't need to pull any timing out of the car. Just get the colder plugs and regap them. We normally recommend gapping the plugs at .035".

Talking about saying nitrous is bad foe the motor, (Not going to mention the name)I had a reputable shop tell me that nitrous is bad for the motor,They told me something to the nature of that due to the rapid cooling and heating that the rings, piston and motor were'nt meant for that kind of abuse. Oh well, I'm still gonna use it due to soo many have used it for many years with out problems.
