Default dual stage ?

i wanted some information on what the purpuse of a dual stage set-up is for. i did a search but didn't find what i was looking for.

is the main purpouse of a dual stage to have a overall big shot of nitrous but not to have it all at once?

if so i want to run a 150 wet shot with daves plate and a 100 shot dry. so would i set one up to start at 3000 and then the other kick in at 4000?

is it nessisary or better to have forged internals with a dual stage or would i be okay with a good tune?

thanks
Eric

Do a search on robert56 for threads started and look for the dyno thread. If i remember the dual stage was discussed quite a bit, might give you some insight. I do mine at 3000 and 4100, and it breaks the torque spike up nicely. This can save wear tear on motor, rearend, clutch and all other rotating parts, and also help with traction. you can also go with a bigger hit if you bring it on in the higher rpms.

Cars with duals stage set ups or progressive controllers are generally much easier on parts. I personally went with a wet/dry dual over a controller because it didn't cost squat to tack a second dry stage onto my existing kit. My two stages are set up to share the same window switch so they both run from 3,000rpm up, they are activated manually. I like the fact that I have manual control over both stages, I find it easier to "feel" the car out of the hole this way. I give it a 50 dry out of the hole and if the car sticks, it will get the additional 175 probrably less than 5' out. If the track is slick I will delay the 175 until I feel it will hook. I've also been toying with the idea of a 3rd stage that will be a progressive dry shot in the upper rpm range, the system would probrably peak at about a 275 shot (crank rated).

GM Muscle now that's going to be different style setup. Might prove interesting if you go that route.
