Default Knocking with new wet install.

Hey guys...

I just recently installed a wet kit on my 2004 z06. Tried it out for the first time earlier this week with my 75hp jets in it and it's getting a heck of alot of pinging with the stock tune. I really didn't think that a 75 shot would be to much for my stock tune to handle for knocking. Any comments or advice would be appreciated. Thanks,

-tim

Not being sarcastic or anything but did you check the basics, like:

fuel solenoid is opening and flowing fuel, jets are correct, etc

Also what plugs are in the car?

Im assuming you came off a stock style fuel rail . did you take the shraider valve out before hooking the hose up? It sounds as if you are getting no fuel at all.

kinda what I was thinking too.
And I'm not ashamed to say the first kit I installed on my car, back in the day, I did that.

I blame the manufacturers. As often as it happens it seems that there instructions are not clear enough

Yes, I came off the stock fuel rail and yes pulled out the valve as well. Jets are NX... 41 on the N20 side and 22 for the Fuel jet. I tested the system by pulling off the lines from my plate and activating the system, both noids flowed fluids just fine. And I'm running TR6 plugs, gapped about .038.

Bottle pressure at 1150 when i hit it. What's the best way to test the fuel pressure and at what time, WOT I assume. It's a fully stock 2004 Z06, no other add on's besides the N20.

You need a fuel pressure gauge to test it. You can test at idle or if you get a gauge in the cabin you can check it at WOT. Should be 58PSI

Sounds lean to me also. Very unusual to have a bad pump, or to run out of fuel on the vettes with a small hit, as the stock Walbro pump is good to 550 plus hp. I would log a/f, this can tell you also if you have a faulty pump or fuel issues. Watch for leaner and leaner condition as rpm's go up. It's really hard to do internet diagnostics, but something is up for sure. Take it to a dyno or a tuner, I would not run it much, or at all, untill diagnostics are performed. How's your plugs looking?

Also make sure you have the lines on the correct fitting for the fuel and nitrous on the plate.

I have an 01 C5 with a 100 shot wet. I also have the varraram intake. When I first hooked my system up and ran it I had major pinging. I couldnt fix it with richer jetting either. I had to take my car to thunder racing and have it dyno tuned because the A/F ratio was at 14.1. What I also noticed on the dyno was an intial spike on the air fuel ratio when the nitrous first hits. I guess this is because it immediately sucks the fuel rail dry and it takes a split second for it to fill back up. I would be very careful based on my experience with the vette. I would suggest having it checked on a dyno.

Thanks for all the input guys, you have no idea how invaluable each of us are for one another. I'm schedualing with a dyno next week to start ruling out possibilities. I'll check the plate to make sure they are on the correct side, thanks dave. Another thing to try is to take more advantage of my progressive controller to give my fuel rail a chance to keep up with flow instead of draining it with 100 percent hit. Thanks again. I'll keep you all posted.

On the fueling, I am putting a return and regulator at the rails system from a 97 vette, also a Kenny Bell BAP. Yes, we can have fuel supply issues, but normally they are on the higher hits. The 97 style will maintain pressure/supply at your highest demand, whereas, the stock return at tank you will see the psi drop and thus lean/fueling issues. I know Dave also went this route on his f-body. With that said, I still think at your power level, if pump is ok, you should have enough fuel, but the dyno will tell for sure. Keep us informed.
