Default Quick plug ?....

Okay, so I got the head back from the machine shop today, they retapped the plug hole and put in a helicoil. He told me that the regular plugs we run that have that bevelled edge on them that seals it won't work anymore cuz the area that it seals on is gone, so he said to run the washer style plugs and to just put them on all the cylinders so I don't have to run diff plugs, is that ok? Also, I went to the local speed shop and they weren't sure on what were equivalent to TR6's and TR8's (decided i'm gonna try some 8's for next trip to the strip to play it safe, that and some more octane) in the washer style, so they called up NGK directly and they recommended for my street plug to run BKR6E and for the track plug R5671A-8, are these ok to run, ordered a set of each, just wanted to make sure that they're the right ones, thanks for any help guys! Also, the plug he recommended for the track has a recessed tip that sits down inside the plug, he said that's better for large nitrous applications, is that true?

PS - I got the head back on today, just got a few other things to put back on and I was tired, so I called it quits after a few hours of working since I didn't have the plugs to start her up anyways. Also, I took a couple pics of the piston before I got started cleanin off the old gasket and workin on the car today, there's like two spots that it's kind of chipped a little in the upper right and upper left corner and some little dings here and there, pic quality ain't great, but take a look and tell me what you think, I think it'll be fine, but just lookin for some reassurance, thanks guys!

I wouldn't run that piston, but its up to you of course.

Well, if I have to go back through the motor again, i'm just gonna leave her down for a while and come back as a turbo car, but I was hopin i'd be able to get some more time out of her!

I just don't know if those little chips would really cause a major problem or not, ya know what i'm sayin?

I'm by no means any expert, but the only problems I can see it causing is hotspots that might cause detonation

I run those plugs. they are fine, and better for spray with the resest tip.

as for the pistion, its not looking great, but id say throw it back together and run it till it blows. just make it a good one!

Hahaha, that's what I was thinkin, hehe!

If it blows, she'll be down for a while, will rebuild her the same motor but with low compression and do a nasty turbo setup on her, I wanna go like wormboy or harlan type fast, hehe!

im sure they would help out. im sure they could set you up with a bad *** engin combo!! they have a couple 346 FI cars running pump gas street cars pushing 800 ish to the ground.
make that 1,000 and in a light car like yours, wwwwoooooo

Yeah, that would be sweet! I could setup the motor myself, but if it does come to it that I go ahead with this, maybe i'd just bring the car and have 'em do it all to save myself the hassle and make sure everything is set right for the turbo setup. My dad lives over there, so he can be my eyes and ears on the progress.

Oh and the car is light, now I need to get weight off, i'm killin the raceweight damnit!

yhea, id say, just let them do it. that way if there are any problems, they will fix it.

Chips in the piston like that tend to hold more heat and will only destroy even more in my experiences...Thats SOME healthy reliefs you got there...Its a wonder the piston hasnt broken yet...

Healthy reliefs? If ur talkin about the valve reliefs in the piston, it's just a flat top JE with -2cc reliefs in it, nothing major. Why would the piston break from valve reliefs in the piston, i'm a little confused at what ur tryin to say I think.

When my pistons let go from leaning out on 9psi the ringland crack followed the valve relief then went along the outside of the piston, i have a picture of it someplace. I'm also kind of surprised they didn't let go right there. I'd also not be surprised at all to see thoes rings fucked up.

depending on the pistion, valve reliefs can be bad. a good pistion will cut a relief in, the on the other side add the material there to keep it strong.

but usually thats a weak point.

Even if they add material on the other side the land goes right under that groove so I think thats a moot point.

but a good pistion adds to the back to help for heat ect.

Gotcha. Well, i'm gonna be up at my dad's on my vacation from the 11th to the 20th of august, so i'm gonna swing by the shop and talk to the guys there and go over everything and see what i'm gonna do, cuz too be honest, I don't know if I wanna go out and spray the **** out of it again and have the worst case scenario happen where it doesn't just take out the piston, but takes out the rest of my motor with it b/c it came apart, cuz right now on the motor, not too much to do, just basically just freshen it up with new bearings, and the new pistons and rings for the turbo. So I may just do it now, just wanna talk to the guys first and get an idea on price and all so I can start gettin the money together, wanna have at least half of it together before I even send the car. I've got some ideas for the fuel system too, but i'll give you a call when i'm up there before I head over, maybe you could meet me and my dad over there when we head over.
