Post “Having FUN is what nitrous is about”

“Having FUN is what nitrous is about”

For awhile now I have reading this and other forums and nitrous users (my old self included) always want just a little more, “this time.” As fun of rush as this may be it also comes at a cost. The rush is over in a short period of time and then that old statement comes back. “just a little more, this time.” The fact is very few of us race for money, and pride is a strong reason to want to kick *** on the strip.
There are pros and cons with racing; we all know that. Adding a little more with the juice is the easiest way to achieve your goals , and easiest way to spend a lot of money . This is why mfg. gives a recommend amount of maximum nitrous hp per system. Nothing like hitting the button for the first time; your heart racing,
Did I install this correctly, is it going to blow my car up, and then the OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SHITTTTTTTT what fun that was. If your women was around probably the best sex she had in a while . After you made that madden voyage.
You where king nitrous user and you wanted all your buddies to know and go for rides.

Anyone who has ever owned multiple (performance) cars throughout their life remember what was the must fun car you had? Mine was an 81 Camaro, might have ran mid 11’s. I could beat that car and dog it, and just try to break it, ever light was a chance to practice launching the car. lol If I had a nickel for ever time that car seen WOT, I would a bunch of nickels.

Then I caught the bug, bigger cam, better heads, bigger engines, blowers, and yes nitrous. “Man those bottles were fun”
The car was still fun but the maintenance was starting to get a hold of my pocket book and my time. No biggie young full of **** and vinegar, living at home, keep throwing money at it.. I was always trying to go faster or beat my buddies car or beat a car from a near buy town. I even build a luv truck one time just to beat a friend of mine. ( boy that was not cheap. ) haha

And now I have a real race car 94 Bird, turbo, bla bla bla . That sits in my shop with a cover on. No time to work on it, no time to play with it.(its for sale by the way.)

Anyway, I just want everyone to have fun with their cars and their choices of power adders.
Stay safe,
Do not get greedy, just have fun and keep the cars simple, you’ll be glad you did..
That is unless you really want to play the game and keep trying to fill the money pit. lol

Ricky

EDIT: I still own the 81 but it’s in a million pieces, and might not see the day light for many more years.

Great story Ricky! You got me thinking about my first car....1977 Camaro Rally Sport. Had it less than 4 months and built a new motor from parts I scrounged for everywhere. 4-Bolt main block, Forged pistons (11:1 compression), forged rods, heads, huge cam and even a dual quad cross ram manifold. Man did that thing fly!! Only thing I didn't pay attention to was the tranny, stock TH350 puked in less than a month! Oh well....Just had a new TH400 built. I wish I still had that car.....

That pretty much sums it up for my first time with Nitrous. I was wondering if I was going to blow my **** up,wondering if I hooked everything up right, I was soo pumped after my first shot my heart was pumping and my hands were shaking a little. This was on the way to my brothers and his GF house to go out and party. When I got there I celebrated with a shot of jack Danels, Let the car sit for the rest of the night and went out to see some bands, got laid. And yes that that was a good night.

I hear you Ricky. If you want to have a fast street or a race car, it's all about having the time and more importanly the money for it. Those two things can take alot of fun out of the hobby.

I have all kinds of things that I want to do with my car and it's currently "under construction" but I have no time for it. I havn't driven it in a year and I have a basement full of parts for it. Looking back to last summer, mid 10s in street trim is where it's at, I have no idea why I'm so focused on chasing single digit numbers. I think it may go back to full street car next year.

I am still riding around in one of those... A '90 model NT DSM. The car is slow as cold syrup but saves me enough $$$ to be able to afford to play with the Camaro.

Yea, it's all about having fun. When the fun factor is gone, why even do it. I suffer from the 'Money Pit' syndrome myself. My first 'Rat Rod' was a 56 Chev which could do slight wheel stands, but my second rod was a '57 Chev on the giggle gas, yes pure medical grade nitrous, hehehehehehehe. Maybe someday I will grow up and quite throwing my money away and invest it all, not. Some guys won't spend there money on cars, yes when older they have a bunch of moola, but have never been anywhere or done anything. Not me, I might be dead tommorrow, so today I am having some fun. We (couple car clubs) are doing a dyno shoot out, turbos vs blowers vs nitrous, today, why-because we can.

I think my most fun street car was a 1987 Buick Regal T-Type Turbo with the blackout package. I took all the emblems off, put on dark window film, added some sexy wheels with wider rubber on them, upped the boost, and bought a new NOS brand nitrous system from some guy named Mike Wood who installed it for me in his garage. The car was really good looking and was exceptionally fast for a street car. I don't think I ever lost a race with it. I loved that car. It was FUN!

Regradless of whether it's a 9 second car or not, it's a DAMN fine car. That thing is sick man, keep up the great owrk, and good luck on 9's.

Great post, I'mm far away from my nitrous install, but I can't wait for that day.
