Did You Know Part 2

Nitrous Outlet Plate design.

The Nitrous Outlet plate design took a full year of design and testing to come up with the ending result of the best plate system on the market.

Going into the design process we knew that we did not want our discharge aimed at the back of the intake. Current designs that were on the market for the TPI and LT1 intakes aimed the discharge at the back of the intake. With the plate being placed so close to the front runners there was a potential hazard of over powering the back runners and missing the front runners. We also knew that we wanted a clean sexy design that fit and functioned perfectly.

Our first design left a little to be desired. We started off by having a plate water cut and then plumbed tubes into it. The spray tubes were contoured around the throttle body’s butterfly. We designed the discharges in the tubes to spray across the intake throat instead of at the back of the intake. To seal the plate to the throttle body we made a paper gasket.
After spending all this time and having the first article of design we were not pleased at all. Yes the unit should work ok. But it lacked the quality that everyone expects with the Nitrous Outlet name. The more I looked at the part the more I became disappointed.

Here is the first plate design. Keep in mind it is a test part not final product. Final products are when you start working on the cosmetics.


Now back to the drawing board. We set down and talked about what we had and what we wanted. Being that there was no current plate system on the LS1 market we wanted to hit a home run the first time. We wanted the best performing, best fitting, best looking plate period!!! We started by talking about what we did not like about the plate we already had. The question was how do we make it better!!!

Here is how.
Loose the spray bars. That was old technology. The fix was a perimeter design. With the perimeter design we would be able to offer the best discharge available by breaking up the mixture the best way possible. This created the best atomized discharge available on the market today. Being that the plate is so close to the front intake runners this was very important. We did not want the potential of over powering the back cylinders.

Next was the cheesy paper gasket. All this new technology why use a paper gasket. YUCK!!! So we decided to take the factory GM O-ring gasket and have it machined into the plate. Now we had a factory O-Ring gasket sealing the plate to the intake and the throttle body to the plate. Perfect!!!!

Now we have the discharge and the gasket figured out time to concentrate on the throttle cable extension bracket. This was an easy fix. We took and made an aluminum bracket that would space the factory throttle cable bracket forward. Now the cable lined up and worked perfectly.

We ran into a small problem on the 97-04 Corvettes. Moving the throttle body forward ¾ of an inch pushed the AIT motor into the power steering pump reservoir. You could simply bend the bracket for the reservoir by pulling it forward and everything was ok but still real close. So to fix this issue we created a kit that would replace the stock power steering hose from the reservoir to the pump and then space the reservoir forward. We also ran into a problem on the GM trucks. We had to relocate the inlet fitting to the side of the plate to clear everything on the truck intake.

We now had the discharge, gasket, and fitment all figured out. Time to test it. We went through the normal process of checking the flow of the plate. Then we put it through much dyno and real world driving test. It passed with flying colors!!!

Time to make it sexy!!!
We went to the CNC machine. All units were CNC and the inlet fittings were placed facing towards the cab of the car. The billet aluminum plates were then sent to anodizing and anodized black. From there they went to laser etching to have the fuel and nitrous inlet fitting labeled. To top it off the Nitrous Outlet Logo was placed on top.

We now had the final product. All the people involved in the process were extremely happy with the final design. With a smile on our faces we looked at the pile of scraped parts it took to bring this awesome product to market. Everyone involved had a great deal of time and money tied up in what we hoped to be the best thing on the market.

We were ready to bring it to market. We were surprised at the response the customers were giving us back on the plate. To this day we have not received one complaint from an unhappy customer. The results have spoken for themselves time and time again. We accomplished what we set out to do. We had developed the efi nitrous plate that would revolutionize the nitrous industry!!!!

I knew that!

But, I am sure, if all the forum's customers spend 8-10 hours a nite on the message boards they would too

Not only did the Daves plate work right out of the box, it was easy to tune (So easy an oilfield hand can do it ), in addition it is easy to remove should you de-nitrous the car. No holes in the airlid or in the Air Bridge .

We dont sell the plate by itself. We sell it in a plate conversion package for $259.99.

Very good information and interesting to read.

 

The plate is great. Just recently added the plate to my kit. Works perfect, the jetting was dead on for me, some have found it rich, but mine is right at 11.8-12.0.

 

Looks like a little spray headed out the top. Guess the fitting wasn't tight or was that your idea of a purge?

I feel a second stage coming on... specially after I just got the wife a new lexus. How can she say no now???

Back when we released our plate we had another design we did not bring to market do to trying to keep the retail cost down. Now we are thinking bout making it an option. If you have payed attention to some of our custom intake jobs in the past you have probley seen a peek of it here and there. I know some people seen it and thought it was a great idea....................

Anyways here is an option for you guys. I want some feed back.

There are pros and cons to doing this.
Pros-
A unique looking install.
Solenoids are premounted.

Cons-
We are limited to solenoid size. The most HP you will get is 200 hp
We can not use a purge port style solenoid. So your purge will have to go before the nitrous solenoid.
This set up will cost more.

We can design a option ( part number) that will attach the solenoids to the plate.
