Mini freezer for chilling bottles before filling?
Mini freezer for chilling bottles before filling? I'm buying a filling station off my buddy and would like to find some way to chill 10lb bottles before filling so that I can stuff the full amount in there. Is there a small cheap freezer available or what's my best option? Just wanting to hear people's ideas.

If your buying a station with a good pump, there is no reason to freeze the bottle. I've never had a problem filling bottles to there full weight, and that's with an NOS pump that's almost 10 years old. Just use your head, don't go and fill a bottle that comes it at like 1,200psi.

i gravity fill mine. from a little T&T on my car vs. a local guy with a NX pump station (we get our gas from the same place). my car was about a 10th faster with my gravity filled bottles. i fill for most of the guys around here & have been told many times that mine "hit harder" and are a little faster.
i just stick them in the freezer unless there pretty empty. i've also found about 9.5lbs. in a 10lb. bottle is about optimal.

honestly an ice bath is the most efficient way to get somethign cold. Ice water makes a bottle cold 10x faster than just ice, there is exponentially more surface area. I learned that after years of experimenting with beer. thats just my 2 cents.

To answer the question about using my freezer I have, it's not big enough and there's not room in it. I live in an apt with an 800 sq ft garage underneath so space is a little important, especially when I'm gonna have three mother bottles in here soon along with all my other crap. It's got an NX pump with the station so I might just try it that way first then see if I need to step up to the freezer. There's no doubt they fill faster and fuller cold, but it might just not be worth the hassle.

If it is summer and the bottle is hot to the touch you will need to cool the bottle so it can be filled. No need in over working a pump and taken for every to fill a hot bottle. Another thing that can be done is if the bottle only has a couple of pounds in it, drain the bottle, this will chill the bottle internal very quickly. And the bottle is dead anyway.
Or just have an ice chest ready to go, simple cold tap water can drop temps very nicely.
DO not fill any bottle past its rating. By over filling you are taken away from the expansion area designed into these bottles. bottles that are over filled can and will rupture the burst disc easier.
