Default 500 shot

Alright I got some questions

Engine:
346 block
Trickflow heads
T-rex cam with upgraded springs/pushrods ect.
Lunati Pro Billet 6.125'' Connecting Rods
( Whatever pistons would hold)
Meziere electric water pump
Kooks 1 7/8 headers without cats
Dedicated fuel system
Direct Port kit (4 solenoid)with fast 90/90 combo ported
Progressive controller
Good tune

And tranny/rearend to hold.

Would this motor be able to handle a 500 shot?
What pistons would be best to run?
At this point will the stock crank no longer hold?
Whats it rated at?
If the motor could hold this, im thinking this would be over 1000hp.

NO

You are going to need Major Block Work to Hold 500hp worth of nitrous.... Thats Dedicated Nitrous motor....

Coated & gas ported pistons, Hellfire rings, HUGE head Studs, 0-ringed block, Copper gaskets , Possibly Billet mains if using aluminum block, a Custom Ground Nitrous Cam, ETC, ETC, ETC....

Take a look at the TOP Nitrous LSX ET's Max is a 350Shot From Shiz, most will do 200-300 max since the motor is increadibly prone to lifting the heads

It'll be interesting to see how the new LSX block will hold up on a 350 shot or bigger..

.

Don't know that block or rods, but I know a few tips for 500+ hits. My opinions, and experience.

You need a 6 bolt head.
N2O top of line piston W/coating
Real crank, no stock, no china crap
More cubes the better
Real rods, nothing half ***
You better have a data recorder or know how to read plugs
Don't be a hero/big shot, work up to max hit

Good luck, bring your check book.

Until the 6 bolt heads are released or people run 6 bolt ET's it won't matter.

The problem is in the clamping force supplied by 4 studs.
A 6.0 iron block will handle more than anyone has tried to throw at it. Casper W2W's 6 sec TT car used a race prepped iorn block.

I was going to say, I'm hardly a nitrous guru, but I don't see that lasting at all. I know Eastside has done a ton of work with 300 shots and higher, and pushing water and/or lifting the heads becomes a big problem with those kind of hits. The cylinder pressure is enormous..multiple stages may help. But I think you'd at least need that 6 bolt LSX setup to even have a prayer of holding that kind of hit.

So I would be better off going with like an iron 408 versus the almunium? Also, ET makes 6 bolt heads?

LSX is nice, but like has been said, bring your check book. I couldn't afford it, so it's a 408 iron and a 300 shot for me, and of course all the supporting goodies.

500 shot=

500 shot on Fuel Injected motor would be rediculous . IMO For the amount of money, get a nice turbo setup with spray.

i've personally never seen a stock 346 take a 500 shot. i've seen some gen III/IV motors take it, but not with a stock 346 block.

Well...I'm building a Nitrous motor based on the LSX block at the moment. I'm using ETP 6 bolt heads and all the other supporting goodies to keep it all together although, I'm "only" going with a 400 shot. Dual stage and progressive although the full 400 will be there right about at the 100' point.......

That would definately not be my cam of choice on that kind of setup. What you are talking about is a dedicated nitrous motor which would definately need a nitrous ground cam. Lots of cash!!! Yeah, I would put that kind of money in a turbo kit too.

Why is it when someone wants to build a monster nitrous motor, folks always chime in and say a turbo is the only way to go? I don't understand that. A naturally aspeirated motor is MUCH easier to tune and adding Nitrous is pretty simple when you do it right. Dedicated fuel system and proper tuning a Nitrous motor will last a good long time and perform like a raped ape at the track. I'm not flaming the FI guys, just making an observation.

I didn't say a turbo was the only way to go, I just said that if "I" was going to spend that much, "I" would go with a turbo setup. Personally I have only had nitrous cars in the past and still to this day. I like both setups. I think if you could this setup to last then it would be a MONSTER!!! How long will it last is the question....
