Default Nitrous AND battery in the wheel well

I couldn't get a match on a search, so I'll ask here. I took out the spare in my 96 WS6 and noticed that with proper bracket fabrication, there is room for a battery relocation AND the nitrous bottle to sit behind the panel.

Question: Is there any safety issue with putting both of these components where the spare tire was?

thanks.

Brian.

Since N2o is not flamable, there wouldn't be any 'danger'.

I would put the battery on the left side of the car and the NOS on the right side (in the spare tire location)

I can not see any issues, other than some people at the track might say no way. It might be ok, but it probably just looks dangerous to most uneducated people. hopefully you should be fine, I would think about a gel battery if you already do not have one though.

Well if you have to have the weight, then the right rear is the place to have it..

One thing tho, if you do decide to split it up like mentioned above, I would put the bat on the right and the nitrous on the left. Main reason is the weight of the n20 bottle will change, the battery wont. (for the most part) Plus the electrical connections are closer.

If you do get both in there id love to see pics.

Unless you change the type of battery you have (uncovered +/- terminals at the top), then during bottle fills, I'd be worried about shorting out the system. But then again, my bottles are polished and no longer powder coated, so they'd conduct a little bit better in an odd-ball situation like that.

I'd keep them on opposite sides too. Batteries can outgas some hydrogen at times, and N2O is a strong oxidizer. Its never a good idea to have a flammable gas mingling with an oxidizing one.

lets say the battary did blow up or something while the n2o was leaking... it is what? 3' across the back of the car max???big deal!!! fuel cells with "flammable" liquid are in the back of cars with batteries???

They can fit. If you use a smaller battery. I built a mount for an Oddessy 900 for mine that fit under a 860 Mounting plate

Mixing one flammable gas (hydrogen) with another (gas vapors) doesn't necessarily increase the chance of ignition. Mixing an oxidizing gas with a flammable gas does. And 3' can be a big difference, it could be more than enough to dilute any hydrogen from the battery to below an ignition concentration. 3" is another story. JMHO...

If you follow the NHRA rules about having a battery relocated in a vehicle that does not have a rear firewall...sealed, vented box, etc. you will not have any problems. Nobody I know of sells a kit that could just pop in. I had to have a custom box made up, and modified a BMR batt holder to comply with all the rules and fit under the bottle. Totally solid. Moser 9in w/ detroit locker alleviates any traction issues.
