if you look at a gasket you will see the holes in the gasket are very very small. i welded the heads, then drilled out the holes to match the gasket. i did this 4 years ago when lifting heads was an issue hoping it would help the issue.
it did so we did it on 2 other cars and they are still going strong.

How could you expect AFR to warranty the heads when you welded every coolant hole shut? I have dealt AFR and Tony Mamo many times with exceptional results. The valve time issue was a perfect example of what kind of company AFR is. I am sure other companies would of replaced the bad valves but I doubt very many other companies would of payed to R&R the heads like AFR did.

speed racer, are you a friend of tony's? funny you posted here and in the easternsection. your right, afr said they would replace the head then they didnt and it still cost me the price of shipping it to them, then to ship it back to me, and it seems afr still has the head so now they are holding me up from getting my scrap $$ for the alum from the head.
1meangto, i see new heads in my future and they will be somthing, but not afr's.
probably etp 6 bolts, but we'll see.
as for the 2-3 heads/cam cars i do, they will also be somthing differant. no big deal.
the more i talk to people and the pm's and e-mails im getting show more and more why to get other heads. and not from just tech guys. lots of stang guys. strange.

I wish after going through three motors this year I would have ended up with a lsx block or warhawk with 6 bolts.
. But I guess the way I go through them maybe next year.

If it goes 9.2 or better I'll be happy.
Shiznity's car should be back out in 2-3 weeks ... alittle lighter and quicker hopefully

id check on those etps.... We have cars with both and the afr 225's do more than hold there own on etp 245's and 255's

sorry to here your issues but it is what it is. when I thought about porting my afr's the first thing i did was pm toney. he told me to not do a few things i wanted to do and had good reasons i never thought of. just like this welding issue. I sent mine back to him so he could fix 1 of my chaimbers which took some heat at pumpgas drags. he fixed em up and hooked me up with a killer set of hand finished heads which picked up sick flow on the exhaust and intake. It was not free but if i have an issue i have all the confidense he will stand behind his work. as soon as my motor comes in ill hav e it back out. should be real soon. I think its shipping this week.
why not have them welded on the crack? if the welds look good might not be to much. might be worth a try to get it back out this year. BTW 600 for a complete head minus springs and valves is a good deal! the price of aftermarket heads has went up in the last year ...id imagine due to the cost of metal going up so much.

First time out the Pinks Camaro went 11.3 on a crap 1.60 on motor, and a 10.1@133 on a 150 wet shot on a 1.45. I'm looking to get to a 10.9 on 28's with the same converter, and then run 9.9 on a 150 shot, 9.5 on a 225 shot, and 8.99 with a ___ shot. What kind of shot do I need to push this 3200 raceweight car to a 8.99? It's a 347ci and 11: 1 compression.

I don't think your math adds up. It will take more like 175 to run 9.9 and 250-275 to get 9.5 . then to get the last .5 your gona need a much tighter convertor to get it to jump that gap. and near 200 hp. the main reason is at 9.5 you will be about the same 60' in a stock suspention as a 8.99 pass so you need extra power to make up the difference.
the new convertor will also slow the motor times down but give you some on the n20 side. id say near 400-450 rwhp shot but you might need to get the weight down some more. and have a near perfect convertor/tire/gear selection

yeah, to jump that gap isnt just adding more spray, you will need to change a few things. possably gears, and converter your suspention will need to be tweeked esp if you hit it all in 1 stage.
8.9 in that 347 is a big deal, whats it got for parts? cam ect? that will all effect it.
