Default Do i need gauges??

I will be running the NOS 5177 kit on my 02 Firehawk. The bottle itself has a pressure gauge on it so i can read that but do u think i should get a fuel pressure gauge and or a air/fuel gauge?? Do i really need them? Please reply with your thoughts.. THanks,

fuel pressure gauge is a must. you dont want to take the chance of the pressure dropping off and going lean.

if you have a fpss, then you might be ok on a small shot, but is it really worth the risk?

I disagree. If you have a FPSS, it does not matter. It’s not like you can do anything about fuel pressure when you’re driving. Screaming at the gauge isn't going to make the pressure go back up "GO UP!!! GO UP GO UP GO UP!!!!!!"

A person should have upgraded their fuel pump before they start shooting Nitrous. With a good Walbro 255 you will have plenty of fuel pressure.

With the fuel pressure safety switch you are safe. If the fuel pressure stays up, you’re good to go. If it falls off, the nitrous will cut off.

A fuel pressure gauge is a test apparatus on a nitrous car. On a forced induction car (SC or turbo) I would say ALWAYS have a pressure gauge. You don't have a FPSS with FI so your pump might poop out and you still will build 10 lbs of boost.

Why heck, I ran my wet kit w/ NO FPSS and no guages. I did however autotap an NA and Spray run to ensure functionality. I am more concerned now abuot having a FP guage after installing the Walbro then before. Not like the Walbro raises the pressure, but ensures adequate fuel supply for a larger shot. I've heard that even w/ a FPSS if the pressure drops too much too quick, BAM your done, game over. Not sure but it would make sense that sometimes the speed of that electrical current wont be fast enough to stop the 900+ psi of Nitrous flowing! Just my two cents.

That does not make since to me. The FPSS is going to react MUCH faster than a person can react to a gauge (if you even catch it).

I didnt say nething about reacting to a guage, only the fact that if you get a bad burp quick, the FPSS may not catch it. There were posts, I believe on here last year where it happened to a couple guys. I stick with none!

Hey there 2001 Camaro Guy: I could be wrong. Oh my God did I say that. So since you wanna be in the face, How much fuel pressure did you gain switching to a Walbro? ( I didnt gain any, not a single pound, maybe cuz I am still using the stock FP regulator huh?) Bet if you gained any it was cuz your stocker was bad anyway! And why change a good stock pump if your only going to run a 50/75/100 shot and you have few if any mods? (last time i sprayed, oh lets see 100 shot x toomany bottles to count, 150 x a bottle, and lets not go to the 75shot!) Maybe a little insurance but nothing I would say that you should have done! And you shouldnt have quoted the foot reaction thing, cuz you basically implied the same thing with your FI "must have" guage.....What if the FP drops and your still running 10psi, ooops....BAM, or will your foot react quicker cuz your using a FI setup right???? WTFE.

Nasty Hawk: No you do not NEED them, but it is a good idea to accurately monitor your setup as you see fit. AF is nice to check, but running off the stock O2's may not be that great.

So since you wanna be in the face
sorry if it sounded like that....I was just saying that the whole "FPSS not catching the fuel pressure drop" thing didn't make since to me. If you buy a good quality one (and its not broken), it will react faster than any person will (electricity travels at just below the speed of light....I know I'm not that quick ....).

How much fuel pressure did you gain switching to a Walbro?
I was having large amounts of fuel pressure drop off at WOT. The factory pump was still "good" but it could not keep up with the flow requirements. I could dial the fuel pressure up to 70psi but would loose it as soon as I hit 3500 RPM. I was having to tune REALLY rich to make up for the drop off by 6600RPM.

A person does not HAVE to upgrade their pump (hey...do what you want....its YOUR engine...) but I would! They are between $125 and $150 (depending on where you get them) and it takes you an afternoon to swap. It takes a lot of the worry out of things.

no....you will still blow the engine if your fuel pressure goes at 10psi. The difference is, FI does not have a FPSS.

With nitrous you have (or should have) the FPSS that should jump in and keep you from running very long without enough fuel (might still wipe the engine, but better chance than going for a 1/4 mile lean).

With FI, since there is no FPSS, you could possibly run low on fuel pressure but not know it (no safety). So in that case, a fuel pressure gauge is your only hope of catching the drop (lean out) and any chance of saving the engine.

Got it, sorry for beinf rude, bad day for both of us i guess. I havent ate a stang lately ya know. Dayum, your FP was jacked man. i did my Walbro in my garage with a buddy in under and hour, much nicer feeling about the 150 wet shot, and really cant wait for the NXL at a 200 shot! Sorry again, BTW i know the whole electricity thing and NEVER thought about being quicker foot than switch, just the same thought if it drops, HOPEFULLY it will shut down in time.

I know what you mean....

My fuel problem was literaly just not enought fuel capacity. The stock pump just could not keep up with the heads/cam/36lb SVOs/etc....it was just getting left in the dust. I could have used a booster pump (with the stock in tank) but that costs almost as much as (if not more than...) the Walbro did.
