Default Why such a bad rep for ZEX?

I'm a n00b when it comes to nitrous, so I was wondering why ZEX seems to have a bad reputation? Is it ineffective or are the parts just cheap? I used the search but didn't really find any answers.

Thanks

Just old Stigma that came from ZEX bing primarily used by the import/rice crowd a few years back.

They offer one of the safest kits on the market thanks to that little purple box and have great customer service. You really can't go wrong with it.

this is the only thing I can think of that would cause the misconception also

the Zex kit is the easiest to install as it only requires 3 wires to be connected

1) 12v
2) ground
3) tps

Inside those purple Zex boxes are some Parker solenoids .. Parker is a well known valve, instrumentation, and controls company with reaches into almost all industrial markets.. I had a Zex system, and it served its purpose, but tops at 125 wet in the lo-fi LS1 kit.
Had no problems, or malfunctions that weren't related to the install..upgraded to Dynotune earlier this year

Paint it black if the color scares people !!
Zex is a safe system
AND the box will support a 150 shot. They supply 125 jets w/ the kit only for it to be safe on stock motors.

ive known several people who have broken several parts on the zex kits. they are made of cheap parts, and try to market them as heavy hitting kits. if you want a quality kit, go with nx, nos, dynotune, or hsw

And you have proof of these cheap parts, and them being made as "heavy hitting kits"

Nothing wrong with ZEX at all. The only hit against them is upgradability past thier rated shots.

we didnt take pics of the things that broke, the kid learned his lesson and ordered a better kit. it wasnt major ****, but like connector nuts and fittings that turned and stripped with little effort. small things like that make or break a kit, hence why its called a kit, so you dont need to go out and get better parts

I have helped two different guys install Zex kits and i think they are nice stuff. If someone wanted to stay under 125 and just wanted an easy kit to work with, then i think they do great.

should you blaming the parts or your friend? if the stuff was turning or stripping maybe it was on his end. it would be different if you had some sort of legit evidence to disprove zex as a quality product but you dont.

Hmm..are you guys talking about one of the basic regular kits? The one I bought is for a carb plate system since I'm running a VJ intake and an elbow. The kit came with some pretty big solenoids and 10 jet sizes ranging from a 75 shot up to a 300.

I like to describe the Base efi Zex system as a great beginner system. Its easy to install but hits linits when you want to move up to a larger shot than the unit can supply. At that point you have to sell the system and start over. It is not upgradable.

I think the purple color is kinda cool. But I would never put anything purple in my personal car. Every one has deffirent taste though. Zex has doen really well in the inport and mustang crowd. However they do not do so good in the gM crowd for two reasons.

The purple color.
The HP limits the base EFI kit maxes out at.

We have soled many ZEX sytems in the years I have been in buisness. We have had no issues with there products or customer service..
Dave
