What RPM to let off?

Default What RPM to let off?

Hey everyone
I finally got my car together after almost a year of rest.lol
Transmission was out I replaced it with a stock 4l60e out of a 02 SS, I have another trans and converter on the way that I'll put in later so Im not worried about this one breaking. So im going to the track tommarow morining or should I say today.
It's a 98 TA with almost no mods, borla catback, and lid. Im going to spray it with maybe a 150 hit, Im not new to n20 but have learned the hard way the bads of it. lol
Since I don't have a tune, I want to know at what Rpm should I shut off at? Im going to hit it at about 2800-3000RPM, but dont know exactly where to stop at with factory tune? I use to run a 75 and 100 shot and I would shut off at about 5500-5800 or somewhere in that area, cause it wouldn't shift if I held it too long, well it would but it would take a bit.

Your old window limit sounds good and safe to me. Let's see what others say.

My best was a 12.2 @ 118 with a 2.07 60'. I really like how that run felt. The next run was a 12.3 then 12.9 with a 2.4 60' and 12.7. I think they got worse cause I started getting n20 greedy and held the n20 for too long and it feels like it takes longers to shift.
Whats the fix here, is it a tune with higher shift points?

On a stock motor, with no tune.....I'm gonna assume you've already got colder plugs, gapped down, right?

Also, how are you engaging and disengaging this kit? a button and you're judging the RPM yourself, or do you have a window switch?

Oh yeah I got the plugs and gap right. Im just judging the rpm myself with a momentary button. No window switch yet.

Wow, I didn't give it a thought that anyone would judge the rpm and use a momentary switch under nitrous. Are you going by the in-dash tach or by ear? I wouldn't trust my tach, ear or sense of feel for something so critical but I also know that most drivers are better than me.

I would have it cut off at least 100-200rpms before the shift.

On my system{250 shot) I shut down at 6500 on a forged stroker motor.

If you're not running a window switch or an aftermarket tach, I'd let off 400 RPM early, I've seen stock tachs that couldn't keep up with an LS1 on the kit. Personally, I'd get a window switch, MUCH more consistent

What about on a M6??? shut it off early as well or power all the way through the gear?

ESPECIALLY not on a manual....if you happen to hold it out, miss a gear, and nail the rev limiter, it could get ugly, fast
