Default Timing/ring end gap question.

I have forged 383 in my 02 Z06. The car makes around 485/445rw N/A. The first time out to the track I went 10.8,s@130 with a 1.65 60ft. Weather was plenty warm. There is much room for improvement. I want to get into the 9,s at 140+ on a 150 shot. On the dyno and street the car makes peak power around 24*-25* but does not detonate untill 30*+.

My question is. Can I leave the timing down around the 24* mark and run a 150 shot. I am looking at a TNT kit. I don't want to kill my timing on the street in N/A form. It is a rare occasion that I will hit the bottle on the street, but you never know when you will need it. The car is 6*+ away from detonation so I don't think there will be a problem but I am obviously not sure.

Second question. I have my top ring gapped at .0018" and my second ring at .0014" on a 3.905" bore which is a little over .00046" per inch on the top ring and .00036 on the second ring. Are these gaps large enough for a small shot? I would like to eventually like to step up to a 250 shot and run liter bikes.

On the timing, your best bet is to visit your tuner, and have him log it on the kit...The rings should be fine to a 150, not sure about a 250 though....

I am my tuner. I have a WB and EFI live. I will just start on a 75shot and work my way up.

Hey pray, are you the same pray on the Fast List?

Timing is not set by having the most until KR, it's till max power and no more, at least n/a. On the spray it's a whole different world. In my web under timing pull I explain why timing needs to be pulled on the spray. Safety and to make the n2o work as it should. A couple degrees missing and i gurantee you'll never feel or notice a difference, but it may save your motor, as 600+ rwhp is making some high cylinder pressures.
Going much past 200/250 and ring gap should be a little looser, but you may be fine. For example, my 408 has a .028 top ring, and a .021 2nd ring gap. Good luck and let me know if you would like to go on the Z06 fast list, as you have a stellar run so far, congrats.

Thanks. I am on the fast stock list if that is what you are talking about. Last time I checked I was seventh quickest with the lowest mph bone stock. I doubt that still stands. I think I have the fastest 383 though. Not bad for budget heads and no track tricks. On the next cool day I am going to go back to the track and get a 10.6@132. I just picked up 20/20rw with some tuning and better weather on the same dyno I used the day after I went to the track.

I think it still holds. Also, there are many more catagories added. We recently added a cubic inch n/a list, and only a couple submissions. You would be #1 as of currently. I would love to add ya? Also, have an anything goes list for spray, turbos, ci and so on. Many submissions to this list. Check it out, as it's now a sticky in the Z06 section.
