Default Quick ? for my nitrous brothers....

I'm finally making some progress on gettin my Camaro back together, almost there actually, but anyways, i'm gettin ready to buy a set of headers and was wondering if you guys thought I should go with a set of ARH 2" headers or 1-7/8"?

The motor is only 374 cubes, so I know I don't really need more than the 1-7/8" headers for the cubes, but it will be seeing a minimum of 300 hp of nitrous to start back off and I am definately goin up to 400 and may try 500 depending on how it does on the 400 and if I feel crazy, but that won't be for a while, don't wanna risk blowin it up early on.

In case it helps, i'm running a GMPP port matched manifold with an accufab 4150 throttle body on it, tea stg 2.5 5.3 heads, and a large hydraulic roller cam (246/257 .632/.645 112+4).

Thanks for any help and opinions guys, appreciate it much!

That's what I was thinkin, just wanted to check and see what everyone else thought. Some people say it will hurt me on motor (which I don't really believe, but whatever), but I could really care less about motor anyways, and I figured it would pick me up on the spray!

Hell, anything will work better than the 1-3/4" headers I was running before, hahaha!!!!

I would say that the size of shot you're looking at spraying would really take advantage of the 2", but I'm one of those guys that think it will hurt you on motor. But hell, so will a nitrous convertor.

2 inch for the spray at that shot for sure. If they had been out when i got my 1 7/8 they would be on. Got any pics of your GMPP setup? I am finishing up my plumbing on a Vic Jr and Dry DP, very trick, imo. Would love to see how some others are doing things.

Devon,
Thats alot of dope. I aggree that the 2inch may be to much for you on motor. However you should see a worthy gain on the juice..

What block are you running? What are you doing to keep those heads from lifting?

I am waitin on it to come back from the machine shop, it's out gettin port matched to the heads while the heads are being fixed, and I won't have the nitrous back on it for a couple months after it's back together, will have to replenish the bank account.

I'm still running my '99 LS1 original block that came in the car. I've put 350 through it before and luckily have never had a head lifting problem, just usin arp studs and stock gm mls gaskets and torqued the studs down a little extra over what they say, think they say 65 ft/lbs, and I put 'em to like 75 or 80. I also have two buddies local that have been spraying 400 for like 6 months now w/o a problem, same ****, arp studs and gm mls gaskets!!! GM got their **** right with these motors, that's for sure!!!!!

I dont think you will see a 500 shot on that setup. 300 t0 400 is still alot of power though. Dont get to greedy..

Yeah man, that's why I said if I ever try 500, it'll be a ways down the line!

Here's a vid of the 2 local 400 shot boys (both ls2 402's), they like to do a lot of street racing (they're out there almost every week, we got a pretty good group of guys over here, lots of fun), they're at like 2:50 into the vid:

So I know the 400 can be done no problem.

Not sure, none of us over here really put our cars on the dyno with spray, it's not really a good thing to do (the one time I did, way back when, I took out the tranny), we just tune 'em on the track. But the formula's been 8.9's @ 151 - 152. The camaro just swapped cams tryin to pick up a little more on the spray cuz it wasn't really gaining what it should be.

I looked into this, and with my 13.5 to 1 402 and a 100 to 200 hit the 1 7/8 stepped to 2 inch will be fine... if you're gonna be hitting it with 300+ then I would go with the strait 2 inch ones.

fwiw the video in my sig was with 1 3/4 old school qtp's and a set of turndowns, the main reason I want to go bigger is because I'm gonna put an exhaust on the car and want the 3.5 collector so I can run a big exhaust so it's Etown legal and hopefully not choke the car too much.

Most cars like that are flywheel rated if you can get a horsepower number. They are usually auto's with big big stalls, plus you really dont want to be spraying that large of a shot on a dyno, could be bad news

just out of curiosity why/ how is it a bad idea to hit the juice on the dyno. Is it just as bad for a 6spd?

I would use the 2 inch- the flange is a little thicker and will shine on the juice.

I assume that the car is pretty much built around the bottle if you plan to spray to big of a shot, and considering that it wouldn't make sense to pick one part based on n/a performance

Call up the guys at ARH and they're gonna suggest 1-7/8 stepped to 2.....just something to think about
