Default To spray or not to spray???

Ok, I have a stock bottom end ls1 with the 233/239 595/605 on 112 lsa cam, prc stage 2.5 5.3l heads, victor jr intake and a demon 750 carb. I have a magnafuel 300 fuel pump and a bg 4 port regulator so the fuel system should be fine. This motor cam only made 390rwhp and 375rwtq through an unlocked 3500 stall. I am now running a 4000 nitrous stall in a th400 vs the old 4l60e.

I have an edelbrock plate kit and I want to run a 100-150hp shot, but not sure if that will be pushing the stock bottom end?? How much timing should I pull with a 100hp shot? 150hp shot? Currently running 28* total.

Is anyone have lean cylinders with the victor jr intake and a plate kit?

Sam, I would at least pull the pan & slap some ARP rod bolts in her before hitting it with the juice. Thats a pretty nice little H/C combo already on it & I just wouldn't feel good about telling you to just go ahead & pill her up & see what happens. I know how much time you have put into that thing to get it running & converted over into the Elco.

I'd hate to see the bottom end go on you because of rod bolts after all that hard work. Shoot in that car it might even be easier to jack the motor up some & replace the rod bolts.

This is just my opinion. Also the reason I haven't installed my nitrous kit yet either. I have it under my desk, but I'm not letting myself spray until I get my forged motor in, even if I have had the itch to install it since it came in over a month ago.

Yeah, this engine only has 35k miles on it. There is another engine in the works already, but I have a mustang driving cousin that just really needs to be shut up in the worst kinda way.

I did a search and it seems like there are quite a few people spraying 150hp shot on a stock bottom end, and my two concerns are the lean cylinders(which it seems like the vic jr shouldn't be near as bad as a stock style intake)and the bottom end.

With the miles on the engine I thought surely I could make it last until fall atleast with a good tune of course.

I'm by no means sayin you couldn't do it & be fine. I was just giving you my opinion from a friends standpoint. If you got another motor comming together & aren't super concerned with this one then I say go for it & see how it goes. I'm just always thinking way on the safe side, LOL.

Me too. Thats why I made this thread. I do appreciate your input. I am torn because I want to do it, but I just wanted to see what kinda feed back people in the know would have to give.

I'm in the same boat as you..I have TSP stage 2.5 5.3 heads, ported 90/90,and my cam is similar to yours..Its a 232/238 6xx 6xx 111+2...I do have Katech rod bolts though, but stock rods and pistons..I had them installed before I yanked out my Tr224 cam for this one..I'm an A4 as well...
So,if there are H/C/I guys out there on a STOCK bottom end spraying let us know how long and how often you spray, and how big or small of a shot
