so your running a rather quick car at the track with no rear brakes?
The tracks around here would make you leave and never come back

not really , i know alot of viper's ( in the states) remove the rear calipers inorder to run a 15" or 16" wheel in the back and they never get any heat.

lool , i forgot to mention that it does run! i just need to re-tune it for the blower now. that and break it in

its taking so long cause : 1- i need to get my *** motivated to work, 2- i'm building a whole blower kit from scratch, fuel system, and redoing the electrical system .

you can follow the progress on the other thread : 1dirtyz's conversion conversion

I agree with the wrong fuel, and wrong plug..

Have you taken the valves out & inspected them? With the tips gone off those plugs, there is no way they all made it out without damage to the valve or the seat..

Sorry about your luck. Been there, done that.

So you checked all of the rods and none were bent? last time I pulled a set of plugs that looked like that, a ring land had snapped (no lifting) and had a bent rod. it was hard to see the rod as bent though. anyway, same scenario, too lean, too much timing and hot plug. hell with a 400 shot on a 4 bolt block we have to have a spot on tune (listen to ATV's input), and the timing does need to be in the 10° area. Not busting your *****, but so many guys do not understand why the timing needs to be removed, and more as you go up. The rule of this amount per this amount of spray is fine for the small hits, but when we get up into the 300 range all bets are off. man i have to agree with shiz on this build, it's so important to cover all the bases when building the motor, though you may luck out, but then again... i am limiting my 408 to a 350shot, and so far a 300 is a cake walk, lol, but hopefully it will blow up so I can move onto a LSX block, lol. Good luck

Rich is way worse then lean when you spray more the tune has to be right. When your rich your spraying more fuel then you can burn. It will wash down the side of the piston and rings. Which cause them to get hotter then normal. Over time this will weaken the piston and rings. When the fuel puddles and burns in the ring lands the top ring land will lift. Then the second ring will usally get tight. At this point it will let oil in and dotanate. Melting the piston. Which is when must people say it was lean. Wrong answer rich tunes have killed more motors then lean ones.

thanks rob,
i totally agree on the tune part. i just thought since it was a low compression motor , and i was using a progressive controller , that i can get away with a bit of timing

i also checked the rods thoughly and all seemed fine.

i guess its a lesson learned i lready took the system off this engine, i have a spare block i'm putting together that i'll most likely use it on. now if i can just find a project for that engine

True story. Lean does seem much more notorious. Over at yellowbullet they have a thread on burnt piston pics (mine is in there) and many, many are the result of a rich condition.

BTW, how do you understand "too rich"? Do you think 9:1 is too rich or 11:1 is too rich?

Just cut the ground strap and threads off of your plug to expose the porcelain - you'll find out just how rich/lean you are by looking at the fuel ring.

That you should change them more often.
