Default rear gears?

well this winter, aka the next month or so i will be doing a cam swap in my car, sounds like im going to be getting a comp cams 224/230 .581/.588 with 114 lobe seperation, and a ls6 intake to follow hopefully i will be getting some heads before the summer also, should i also put 3.73s in my stock rear end? or is it not even worth doing? let me know what you think,

i want to get into the mid 11s by the summer time, any help on getting me there will be appreciated

Mid 11s on the stock unit would likely be a short life if you could even get there without breaking it. Save your $$ and put 4.11s in something stronger - 9" or 12 bolt or even an S60.

11.49 or faster will require a 6-point roll bar too.

I'm doing a gear change right now and the first number isn't a 3 or a 4.

I wouldnt really worry about hurting the 10 bolt since you are an A4 with a little 2400 stall. If you were an M6 then yeah you need a stronger rear.

Check out this thread taken from the 11 sec club
https://ls1tech.com/forums/11-second...-10-bolts.html

I had 3:73's and an Auburn pro put in mine 3 years ago with no issues. If I was able to do it over I would have spent the dough on something stronger.

Also if your looking for Mid 11's you will need a 3600 stall or bigger.
What gears are in your 10bolt now 3:23's?

Very true. My z28 had stock 2.73's I was pullin 1.6fts on it. and it was fine, I am sure if I went with some 3.73's it would help out alot, and won't hurt nothing, Plus I had a ss3600 stall.

There are a couple of things you can do to make it last a little longer without spending a bunch of cash.

1. Get rid of the crush sleeve and replace it with a solid spacer and shims. NW Diff can do this for you.

2. Put one of the cast aluminum covers like the TA. They support the rear caps and add quite a bit of strength. You could seel this when you upgraded.

A low 230 cam would work best. And like mentioned already a 3600 or better stall.

I had a 230/232 on a 111. with a 3600 stall and I pulled a 11.9 at 115mph. That was with 2.73 gears. She still had some left in it.

That will do for a DD. But I personally would go bigger. Its all in what you consider DD though. Im sure if you put it in, and didn't like it, it wouldn't be very hard to go bigger down the road.

Since when is Thunder Racing no longer a sponser? haha!

228/228 would be a good cam. I believe Kraut has that cam in his GTO. When I was looking for a cam It was a toss up between the 228 and the torquer v2. But I ended up going with a TR224/227 .563/.569 114. And FWIW the LS1's like split pattern cams. If you stick with no smaller than 224 and no bigger than 230 for the street you cant go wrong

that one is brand new, and im getting a good deal on it, 300 shipped, or there is a used one for 200, its 224/230 .581/.588, i told myself on this time around i would go with quality, so the brand new one is very tempting
