Default Lift Install GTG!!!

***UPDATE: Event pushed back to the 28th***

OK, I've ordered the lift. It should be here late next week, so let's plan my garage warming/lift install get together for Saturday the 21st!!!! Milt(Bookbinder) has graciously let me ship to his business and use his delivery truck to bring it to my home. We'll unpack it in the back of his truck and offload by hand. We'll need to have at least 4-6 people there to help lifting the individual pieces off the truck. We'll aim to start offloading at 11am. I'll also rent the tools to drill the holes in the concrete so we can do that too. With a little help and luck we should be able to get the whole thing running by the time the sun sets.

I'll provide pizza and soda. Feel free to bring any extra items you like.

Thanks to Milt for letting me ship to his business and use his delivery truck!!!!

My addy is
27042 124th Ave SE
Kent, WA 98030

Let me know who can make it,
Pat

I have a rotohammer you can use. What size bit and anchors do you need?
bits that I have are 1/2" and 5/8" splined.

I used a cherry picker to off load from the truck and bought 2 dollies at harbor freight to lay the beams on, to move them around. It only took three guys to stand the posts up. Get some white chalk to measure and mark the floor where you want the posts to go. Mearsure off the walls to make sure it's in line on both sides. You'll need two folding ladders to put the upper cross beam in place one ladder on each side and 2 of us walked it right up there. The most important thing is getting it all square, a long level is a must, also a long tape to measure from one upper corner to the opposite post lower corner. Try to get that distance the same on both sides. I can't be there but with instructions you'll be fine. Have fun!

Hey Pat! Since I live literally right down the road from you, I'd be glad to come on over to help out. Don't have much in the way of tools for this job, but I'll be glad to help lift and move a few pieces around.

Shawn, someone else mentioned they had one too, but they aren't sure if they'll be available. If you will be, then I'll tell him not to worry about it and we can plan to use yours. I'm not sure of the size, but I'd guess between 1/2" and 7/8". Bring what you have and if it isn't right we can go get the right one. The hardware for install is supposed to be shipped with it, so we should only need the right bit.

pro1955, I already have the level and tape measure. Chalk is on the list. A few dollies is a great idea. I'll see what I can come up with.

the rest of you...I'm hoping to start around 11am, but it'll probably take all afternoon, so feel free to come by whenever you can get there. I'll make sure the pizza goes in the oven one at a time so there's a steady flow of fresh cheese for the late comers.

BTW, Shawn, I just got a copy of the manual in .pdf. It says 3/4" Masonry Bit.

Here's the complete "Tools Required" list -
1. Rotary Hammer Drill - (Shawn?)
2. 3/4" Masonry Bit - ??? I'll check with the other guy that said he might have one.
3. Hammer - check
4. 4' Level - check
5. Open End Wrenches 7/16"-1 1/8" - I have some, I'll double check the sizes.
6. Socket and Ratchet 7/16"-1 1/8" - I have some, I'll double check the sizes.
7. Hex-key / Allen wrench set - ??? Can anyone bring this ???
8. Large Crescent Wrench - check
9. Large Pipe Wrench - ??? Can anyone bring this ???
10. Crow Bar - ??? Can anyone bring this ???
11. Chalk Line - hmmm...I have normal chalk, but does anyone have the string chalk for making a nice long line?
12. Medium Flat Screwdriver - check
13. 25' Tape Measure - check
14. Needle Nose Pliers - check

If anyone can fill in some of the blanks that would be great.

The other guy says he has a 16"x3/4" bit for his, so I think we have that part covered.

It doesn't list a particular size pipe wrench, it just says "Large", so I think it's mainly that we'll want a long handle to apply torque.

4' sounds great for the crow bar.

Allen Wrenches - I didn't see a particular size noted yet, but I haven't read the whole manual yet...it's like 60 pages!!!

I have a 16' folding ladder, so if you bring a 10' step ladder we should be good to go. The center ceiling truss is about 11'3" and will be right behind the lift. I'll rest my ladder right up against the truss.

Hello, was wondering what lift you bought. I must add that when I got my lift installed and used it for the first time nothing but smiles.. Good luck with the install.

I can bring my 1/2" electric impact wrench if you think it might be helpful... it goes up to 250 ft/lbs, it's what I used to use to take the wheels on and off my cars.

BendPak XPR-10ACX. I was leaning towards a more specialized one, with super low profile arms, but it was about half again more expensive and had a lower lift capacity. This should work for all but the lowest cars, and a 2x8 will work to bring those ultra low cars up enough.

Jason, sure, bring it. It's better to have extra tools on hand and not end up needing them than the other way around.

You will miss the dollies, their great for moving the 2 posts around, the heaviest 2 parts of the hoist. In my instructions it shows all the measurements for the foot of the posts, measure and mark where the posts will sit with the chalk. Then just stand em up on your chalk lines, I ran a string around both posts to make sure thay were square to each other. I also ran the wires from the safety switch and the power feed through pvc pipe down the outside of the post with the motor on it. I used auto trans fluid for the pump, might want to put that on the list. I'm not sure but aren't the posts 12' tall will you be putting it between your trusses? Do not tighten the lag bolts with an impact gun, do it by hand in a cross pattern evenly. It is easier to use big screwdrivers or prybars under the footings of the posts so they stand streight, then put the shims in, I used big washers that I cut a slot in. After you get the lift done and use it a couple times recheck the bolts.
