Uses no Gas Trained four of our 9 guys to pull. They love it.
Mostly because of the treats they get afterwards and they
get to sleep in the big bed with us at night.
25 mph is easy and top speeds are a bit higher but to
scary for me.
They keep up with the horses when we go riding with no
difficulty.
Our 200 lb Babies are being trained for tandem pulling.
Should be fun.

I can only speak for the breads I've had and that's been mostly Danes.
So.......
Pro's
Very Very Gentle and good with kids.
Very protective.
Very alert.
Very affectionate.
Incredibly Strong.
Downright Beautiful Animals.
Feeding is not to bad....four cups of kibble in Am and then in the PM
Con's
Very short life span....9-12 years.
Cancer prone.
Wobblers disease prone.
Need consistent daily exercise and plenty of it.
Prone to Bloat.
Stay away from Blue Danes. Most are walking train wrecks.
All white Danes have a tendency to have hearing problems.
Harlequin Danes are usually the biggest.
Fawn Danes seem to have the least amount of medical problems.
Many different types....Brindle, Harlequin, Blacks, Blues, Fawns
white, fawnequin, merle, merlequin,

Beautiful dawg, I love Great Danes, growing up there was a neighbor that pampered a beautiful brown colored Dane who loved to play with us kids but we never tried to play horse ride or pull us - that dog would have cause us serious damage and we would have gotten yelled at for that
Just curious - what vehicle does he fit in? I wonder what the reaction at the track would be if he was in the passenger seat with a helmet on?

I tried to take him for a ride in the Vette, once. His Head stuck up over the windshield even though he was sitting down. He just rested his chops on the top of the sun Visor. I should have got a Picture.
We have two Toyota Sienna Vans. Just slide open the door and they walk in.
We can take two per van when we go to the ocean.
We do have 20 double fenced acres, so the guys get plenty of exercise.
We currently have 9 Danes and one Pit.

Are they good family pets? We have a brown spotted dalmation everything we've heard about dalmations he doesn't fit one of the stereotypes. I love danes, do you have to worry about hip and joint problems?

Hip and joints are an issue but mostly Wobblers disease and bloat.
Shepherds are the ones that really have the displasia problems.
We finally found a breeder that had European Danes which tend to be
more Mastiff looking and a bit stockier.
They are the healthiest dogs we have. Zero problems so far.
Here's a shot of them with our full grown Pit at age 4.5 months.

I was gonna share with you a interesting story a Dane owner told me..across the street from my last employer was a doggie day care. The two girls that owned it had a Full grown Dane that had to have surgery twice due to eating oddball stuff. During it's first operation the Vet found a handful of nails,screws and bolts and it went back in shortly after for a second operation because it ate a roll of carpet during a remodel at their home. Is this normal for these dogs to eat such weird stuff? If so, keep your cars hidden

This hasn't been a problem with our guys. Sometimes they will get a hold of a glove or some clothing and eat it but not to often.
Over the last 15 years, we've owned a total of 28 Danes.
Most have been rescues and we've never had to open one up because of forigen objects.
Fortunately my Wife and I own a Veterinarian Hospital and we give ourselves a discount for health care. LOL.
My Wife is an outstanding Surgeon so when we do have a problem, she takes care of it at once. I can't remember the number of times she's cheated the grim reaper on our dogs behalf.

I like boxers, i had one that got cancer really bad, she lived 9 years.
I have a 1/2 lab 1/2 aust. shepperd, She is 9 months old and she could chew the "snout off of a anvil", Last week she chewed up a pair of $160 pair of sunglasses, I think yall know how that went!

The only problem I would see with getting a dane is the turds are the size of some small dogs, My doberman is a big enough dog. my dobie has seizures and put's holes in the wall I could only imagin what a dane would do if it had a seizure. My girlfriend just got a Shiba Inu which is a pretty cool dog and he looks like a fox but he is paralyzed in his lower back so he hops like a bunny and has very lttle blatter control, I get so many girls to stop and talk to me about him but I'm taken.

nice! Danes are beautiful dogs but a lil too big for me.
I love our german shepherd and german shepherd/border collie mix. They're both wonderful dogs, the mix is a lot calmer though and obedient. The purebred is still in rambunctious puppy mode even though she's almost a year old. I'm glad to see people dealing and helping with rescues as well, while our purebred shepherd was from a breeder the mix was from an oops litter and would've gone to a shelter if we hadn't picked her up. My next shepherd for myself (since my ex-fiance share the dogs now) will be from the german shepherd rescue.
I only get to see the mix when I visit my ex-fiance but we have shared ummm puppy-custody of the purebred lol
She loves to go for car rides too.
