Whatchyoutalkinaboutboy? That was my cuzin Vern from Boise just stoppin me to say howdy.

You can't go wrong with Bilsteins for road racing Nate. I run HALs because I primarily drag race, but Konis & Bilsteins are the flavor of the day for road racers....unless they have wads of cash like Boyce & can afford LG coil-overs!

Any opinions on Carbotech Brake pads Bill (or others)?

Yeah but i drag race too and this will be my first season with this car. So now i don't know what to do as the Pacific has it's first night Feb 6th and i am going nuts. How much do a set of hals at all 4 corners run? I guess ill just have to keep searching the vendors. Oh, and with bilstein hd's in the rear, would it be better for hals up front for dragging? or would the stiffness of the bilsteins hit the tire too hard on a regular old radial for dragging.

I would love to do this myself but after spending $1000 on a custom tonau cover I am hesitant to cut it for a roll bar/cage. Other than that it sounds like my car would be ready to roll in this thing. And I would enjoy the course racing much more than the dragstrip. As far as the radar traps, what is to say one does not use a detector to get back to speed in those areas?

I didnt read all of the posts. So excuse me if I restate anything already mentioned. TECHNICALLY a rookie can NOT enter anything higher than the highest Touring class or lowest GS1 class. I believe the max speed for a rookie is 124mph. UNLESS you attend a raqce school and have proof of finishing the school. This is the only reason that they let me run in the 130 class BUT they still cut 15mph off my tech speed. I was limited to 150mph which ended up KILLING me in the long run when everyone else had a 168mph tech in my class. With the rain storm that we hit it drop my average WAY down. And not having that extra 15mph kick me in the nuts over the last 11 miles of the run.

As far as me being able to make it with the car.......dont count on it, looks like my racing is going to be done for a long while. I may be able to nav for someone.

Tires, make sure that your tires are no older than 4 years old. I can show you where to find the date codes on them if you dont already know. Even running with a 168mph tech, the stock GSC's on a vette did great. So you dont need to sspend alot on a special race tire. I did only because I want to push my car HARD through the corners. It showed because 5 minutes into the run I had already caught the car in front of me and I had the slower tech.

these runs arent cheap. entry fee alone is hard to swallow. Then throw in hotel, food, gambling, booze, fuel, nick knacks. I think Bill and I had a conversation about this not to long ago and when we kind of nailed down what we spent it was a bit shocking. HOWEVER, it is worth EVERY nickle of it. You have to do one of these events at least once. The best part is when your talking with a group of people and someone says "Yeah, one day I'll do one of those open road races.....", you can say you have done one.

If you need a helmet, try Bell closeouts on-line. Ex:

http://www.genuineaccessories.com/Closeout/COBRTX.htm

You can buy Snell M2000 rated helmets for under $100. (min rqmt for the PE this year)

i would love to go watch you guys, as for driving the car.................................might have a little problem in the corners. and for me to get it ready for this race it would cost me more than just money. But if anybody is looking for a nav i would be happy, and have all the required equipment, fire suit, helmet adn will even have harnesses if people need to borrow some.

I'm in.

395 entry fee
125 rookie fee
75 nav fee

595 total, so what am I missing from the 620 you came up with, Bill?

100 team* If we do get 5 cars together we were thinking we'd pay the $100 team fee, which replaces the $75 nav fee. You don't have to pay both + you get 1% off of the total for everycar so deduct 5% in the event that we have 5 which makes it $589

Bill / Boyce,

Do you suggest getting a lifetime membership? Looking at it this way, if I go twice I'm even, anymore than that & I save $$. And then I get to pick a permanent #, yes?

And if you pay $35 for the Top Speed Certificate, do they give you a pic of the car going across the speed trap with your mph written on it?

One mnroe thing, do you know if that Flying 1k Run is on for this year?

One minor thing I just noticed about fees, pay early & get a $50 discount!

Ahh, I got it. I was going to ask about that team fee vs the nav. Now it all makes sense.

My Helmet says "Snell 2000" on the back for a safety rating. I see they upped the ante on the helmets for '05 to a M2000/SA2000 rating. Looks like I'll need a new one eh?

No, yours is the M2000 if it says Snell 2000 on it. It will say in bold letter if it's the SA version, which means it's an M2000 with a nomex liner.

ORR vets, what's the consensus on these for the 110-124 speed range?

That tire will work fine for those speed classes.

Those ones will be fine unless you want a more accurate reading on the water temp.
