LS1 exhaust ? Hey all,
My buddy has a 98 T.A. Apparently the CATS are
setting SES!
He wants to go headers and !cats.
What all is involved. Will he need O2 sims? I suggested KOOKS headers to him.
Will he need to change PCM to go !AIR on a longtube install?

You can program out the need for o2 sims and the codes for the AIR pump so it can be removed as well.
If he's not able to get programming right away, he will probably just want to get the sims to avoid the SES light, and not remove the AIR pump until he can program the code out.

If you get it reprogrammed you might as well do the !EGR, !AIR, and !O2 sensors, get your rev limiter raised, get your top speed limiter raised, change the temps at which your fans come on. etc.....
I think Ellis is the only one around that can tune a 98's VCM.
Kooks, QTPs, PPCs or FLPs are the 4 Grotty type headers. You can't go wrong with those for fit or performacne. Cost on the other hand..... If he wants a more reasonably priced header look into PaceSetter or the new Eldebrocks. Do NOT buy SLP.
If you plan to install them yourself, there are good instructions on installuniversity.com or ls1howto.com or both. And I can type up some tricks / tips for you. Tho I've never done a 98.....
