Default '71 cam install complete

My old cam specs were

Hydraulic flat tappet
240/246
.560/ .573
114 LSA

New cam specs are

Solid flat tappet
244/252
.590/.598
110 LSA

And believe it or not it idles better than the old cam did. I actually had my 17 yr old daughter warning me about the noise so late at night so I didn't get a chance to really check it out lol ! Other than a little more valve train noise it sounds about the same as the old one, maybe a little smoother ??

Anyway this one should pull hard all the way to 6500-6800 rpm I hoping. The hydraulic cam was falling on it's face at 5900 If I can get it to hook up to the tune of about 1.6-1.7 60 ft. then 11's shouldn't be any problem

I'll get dyno #'s on the first Monday that isn't raining

Nice! looks like wash on numbers(loss's due to lash in lift and duration) but should pick up the top end like you want! the 110 LSa should really help with idle and make more power over all then the last one.

NICE Choice!

Yes Mike this is the one. You've seen me race it before haven't you ? I'm thinking about going with a Hal front coil over setup for the front to help with launching. Tight gears and big torque are hard to nail down on the launch

Sweet! Looks like that will definitely do the trick to get you into the 11s...

Maybe an 11.99 to my 11.98?

Yeah, I bet Bill could probably post a better time in my car than I could in it... Although with bragging rights on the line, I just might get better in a REAL hurry!

Yes, I have seen you race it. I figured you would be racing this car more now and not the TA.

I heard that.

Not sure I'm going to be ready by the 13th. I may be tearing the EGR & AIR off next weekend. Not that I'm hot about going that day anyway. I won't see any improvements unitl my car spends a couple weeks at the 'Monroe Health Spa for Hot Rods'. I'd mostly be going to watch the rest of you guys run.

Nice cam Bill. Should be interesting to see who can pull who on the top end now. Gonna be a fun year! (I shoulda gotten a bigger stall)

Very nice Bill. You should have posted up so some of us novices could see how you did the cam swap. Glad you got it done. Now when we gonna get to the T/A?

Bill, are you using the stock rocker arms or do you have a roller style rocker? Should pick up more if you go to a roller rocker if you don't already have them. Stud Girdles?

Old school bbc/sbc cam swaps are pretty gravy compared to the LT1's/LSx's.

Doug, until I either fix my daughters car or buy her a new one my T/A is my new daily driver. No cam swap until after I can park it again

Rick I have the Comp Cam Pro Magnums . They are a full roller design and should take me a long way into the future of my modding plans

I have 1.75 pro mags ready to go in my Formy. In light of what we just found out, I hope their rockers are heat treated and tempered better than the cam cores are.

Virtually all of the scuttlebutt on the hard core racing sites I frequent, such as chevytalk.com and others point to a "cam only" type of problem. I hope this is true. My rockers have been on for 3 years now ( limited miles though ) and I inspected them during the cam install and they looked perfect. I'm sure yours will be fine. Nice choice in rockers BTW When I chose mine I was going to run my '71 in the '01 SSCC ORR event, so I chose them with durability in mind. They are a very good product.

Good deal! That makes me feel better.

Did you ever do a leakdown test or compression test on the T/A after the dyno pulls?
