What would be fun to drop a LS2 in?
Thinking about this for the last few weeks.... starting to consider what my next project is going to be after teh PuRpL3 gets to the point I want it... Been considering just crashing the bucks on a LS2 crate motor and then finding a donor car to drop it in..
What kind of car do you think would be fun to drop a LS2 in? Something it would fit in without a ton of modification...
The ones that pop into my head are... early 2nd gen Firebird... late model RX7... 280Z... My Colorado...
Just thinking... what would you choose?

That Colorado would be really potent with an LS2 powerplant. Like the old S-10's with 350 transplants. Or, you could pick up a late 80's Fiero for mid engine LS2 power, there used to be kits to convert them over to SBC, you could probably find one and adjust on it slightly.

My top vote would be for a 240Z. They are about 400 pounds lighter than the 280Zs and I think that is one of the easier engine swaps. I saw an LS1 in a miata somewhere, which is cool and all, but I just wouldn't want to drive that around. Third gen RX-7 would be awesome as well and a lot of people who blow their rotary motors up are chosing to go the LS1 route because of the cost and ease of install.
Also..
Datsun 510
Volvo 200/700 series
And basically anything is possible, with the $$

I think a Rx7 would give you the most car in that swap. You have a great rear suspension and you have a good weight. You'd basically be driving around a C6...Ok that is stretch but you know what I mean.
Stylistically a 70-73 Firebird would be the sweetest setup, but also by the time everything is said and done the most expensive, would probably be worth the most too. (I'm kinda biased I have a 73 SD 4spd Formie)
The Z car is one of those cars that I think are really cool especially with v8's but I have no desire to buy one.
Another good choice IMHO is the 944 they are dirt cheap and a nice platform and they make conversion kits for those as well.
So my vote would be for the RX7...although if I was doing it I'd probably do the 944 for financial reasons. Just find a REALLY clean one for 2-3K. Vs a blown motor RX7 clean is probably in the 8k range. But the kits for the RX7s seem very complete seems like the easiest one to do.

If I was gonna do that, I'd buy a 6-banger car and make it look like the nicer models.

Poik, I've owned a couple 240Z's in my past. Neat cars but damn the rust in those things lol.....

I have been wanting to do a 1969 T/A replica (looks-wise) with some nice modern muscle up front....an LS2 would fit the bill quite nicely.
Although, last year sometime, there was a magazine cover story (Hot Rod I THINK) that has a company making BRAND NEW 1969 Camaro 'verts for sale*, all steel..........that would be fine in place of a replica '69 TA for me.
*They are just making the body/frame....you have to supply the interior, drivetrain, suspension, etc.
