Default LS1 engine tools

Does anyone have the engine tools for the LS1. the one I need right now is the one that will hold the flywheel in place so I can take tha balancer/clutch etc off. Or is there an alternative way. I would just need to borrow it for one night to get the thing disassembled.

Can't you just stick a phillips screw driver thru a hole in the flywheel to hold it while you break the bolts loose?

I dont know if that will hold when I am trying to pull the crank bolt out. And I dont want to risk damaging the block if the screwdriver breaks and gouges the block.

I assume the tranny is not connected. The screwdriver or prybar method will work....used that method on 2 autos.

The motor is out of the car.

On an iron block I wouldnt have a problem using a pry bar but the aluminum is a bit softer and I dont want to risk damage. Unless someone knows it can be done I dont want to guiney pig anything on the only block I have.

I ordered the flywheel locking tool, but it never came in. So I grabbed the largest phillips I had & stuck it thru a hole in the flexplate. It made a small dent in the block tab above the strater, but nothing that would affect anything. I guess I'd have to look at the motor sitting out of the car to decide for sure, but I think it will work just fine. Is it home, or at Don's?
