Default It Shifts!

Well, it did for 4 whole test runs last night anyway. I fiddled & played & tweaked & finally got the car to shift around 6700rpm. And now when it hits the next gear it only drops down to 4700rpm....MAX POWER BAND BABY!!! So with any luck, that and my other adjustments will make the results on the 29th more to my pleasing.

Details of fix if you're interested. I had to change the tire size (315 Nittos are 1/2" taller than GSCs) and change the gear ratio from 4.10 to 4.11 (Predator tune entered the 12 bolt ratio). And I had to re-adjust the mph shift points (I guessed at the track what mph coincided with 6700 rpm, and I was low). All that helped a little (went from ~6200 to 6400) The final fix was to set all my shift points @ 7000 rpm, and bump the rev limiter to 7200. Now the car shifts at 6800 1-2 & 6600+ 2-3. (yes, I am moving 1-2 down to 6900)

Kind of a scary way to fix things, but hey, it worked. As long as my motor doesn't try to hit 7k! What this means tho is that some parameter in some table (Speedo?) is wrong. If & when I find it, I will let people know.

For the split secong that it will see 7k i wouldn't worry about it mark. for the little short time of the shifts it will hold.
Glad you got it right, can't wait till the 29th.

After all the goading I've done to him, I think I'd put my money on Bill...

Glad you got it fixed, Mark! It might just be the first one into the 11s is the first one to get a run at Bremerton.

I think 12.0s will be a stretch for my car. I'm pretty sure you & Bill are still going to be a couple tenths faster than me. (sorry Steve) I know I'm going to need skinnies to break into the 11s. And maybe not even then. I should have taken all the $$ I just put into my tranny & stall & bought a damn T56......

Bah... you DO want to win trophies this year, right? The A4 is the way to go to win at brackets.

Besides, the skinnies are probably your best bet to get there... you could also go with a slightly more aggressive cam as well.

I think you nailed it. If you want to runs 11's first then you'd better be the first one in line This is kind of entertaining really ... 3 people knocking on the door all at the same time, and 3 people who have done stuff to their cars that should make them et quicker. I know I'm on the edge of my seat

Mark I think that you might just surprise yourself and run quicker than you think. Your car is pretty strong, it's kind of like my car in that you've had all the hardware for a while, but have just needed a few details to get it fine tuned and put it all together for that one great run ! Should be fun.

*BOLD PREDICTION* At least one of us is going to run an 11 next Friday

Wouldn't THAT be sweet! We all have a legit shot at it. I'd be up for buying a pitcher if that happens, regardless of which one of us it is.

I'd bet on Jason myself. He was the closest, so therefore has the best chance. Bill probably made the biggest change (valve springs, shocks, QTPs if he has the nerve) but also has the farthest to go. And while I'm "only 3/10ths away", at this level I can't imagine that rev-ing 500 rpm higher, sealing my air box, and adjusting the rear shocks is going to make that much up. MAYBE 2/10ths.....maybe.

It is rather exciting tho. Good luck to us all.

Actually, the tires don't spin anymore, but the car jumps pretty good when it hits 2nd gear at that rpm. Huh Steve? In fact, it feels SO good, I decided to raise the rev limiter & see what it will do at the track this way. Hopefully 6800 isn't too hi for a stock bottom end.

Yeah kinda like a mule kicking you in the back. We were in town so I Mark wasn't able to give me the full meal deal, just got into it a little bit, but the 1-2 shift hits hard and hooks. Feels good enough to make you want an Automatic.

That is even better. Hitting 4700 at those rpms must be a kick, nice!

Look how high Sardog is spinning that stock bottom end... 7200 on a regular basis.

I'm usually shifting around 6700-6800, and I feel pretty confident with it... for as little time as we spend there, it should be fine.
