Default WHEW!!! Finally made it.

Ok, so I rolled into town Friday evening and WTF????? It is like 85 flippin degrees. I thought I left that crappy heat down south.....but thank God it cooled off yesterday and today is even better. I told God I wanted a nice cool, overcast day for my B-Day and here it is.

So, it is official, although I am crashing with family till I find a place I like/want, I am here. Let's & .......not one right after the other though.

BTW, my car was horrendously noisy on the drive up here, and after checking out a few things, it would appear to be the rear end (stock 10-bolt) making a lotta noise. Is this a warranty thing (I still have 4 months and/or 6k miles) or am I just hosed or can I let it go for a while? The car has 29,900 on her so far.......

Any help would be most appreciated. The car is available for rides for anyone who doesn't wanna try to diagnose non-specific whining/growling/drone from the *** end of the car.

One more thing....I think there ought to be a law about those fuggin huge chunks of tires from semi's that are left in the raod as they peel off any one of the 18 wheels on those beasts. In Weed, CA (about 40 miles from Oregon) I came around a blind curve in the dark (there are no lights on the 5 fwy in that area) and smacked the crap outta one of those retread things in the middle on my lane. Did a small number on the paint and God knows what else on the pass side front end.

Glad you made it. Too bad it wasn't unscathed. I was dodging those retreads yesterday too. Weed, CA? Are you kidding? Must be a happy place!

So are we gonna see ya at hooters tonight for the bikini contest?

I would get that rearend checked asap. I took mine to Kirkland Pontiac a couple months ago cuz it's howling. They said "normal". When I was greasing my lca's and panhard bar the other day I noticed a nice slinging ring of rear end fluid from my pinion seal all over my torque arm and everywhere else. I'm going to call and read them the riot act. I'm going to try the dealership in smokey point and see how their service dept is.

<PERK> Bikini contest????????

What time? I am going out with my folks for a few hours right now, but I will be back later.

As for my rear end, well, the car's rear anyway, I had the rear pinion seal replaced once under warranty already about 15k ago.........and I did notice a slight leak in the bottom of the rear end cover about 2 weeks ago, but it isn't even dripping on the ground, just barely seeping out of the case.........let me know how it goes with that dealership cuz I am afraid I am going to have to do something SOON.

Hey welcome finally...

If you do need some work on the rear end but can't get it warrantied through the dealer, let me know... I know a guy who actually does a damn good job on the rear ends and doesn't cost a whole lot of money.

You can also switch to a little thicker of a gear oil which would help cushion the gears a little better... the 10 bolt can use all the help it can get. I used to use Redline's ShockProof gear oil when I had a 10 bolt, but Amsoil also makes a Severe Duty (same type as Redline's ShockProof) gear oil that is really good as well. Since I have a 12 bolt however, I can't use synthetic since only conventional gear oil is recommended with the Eaton HD posi I have.

Mine does whine as well, but that's the nature of the 12 bolt beast when you've got 4.11s, and are launching at 6k rpms on slicks.

Glad you made it safely. I was just sitting here wondering about you.(Ran out of people to pick on was the main reason J/k)

To bad that did not happen in washington you hitting the tires on the road.
My understanding if you stop and call state or county and make a report of it the state/county will pay the damage(under 1000) anything else you have to sue em.

As far the the noisy rear end.I had that same problem around 30k ,It turned out to be the Differential I now have 50k on that rearend just waiting for it to drop then we are going to stuff a 12 bolt under that thing. In your case If it turns out to be the diff. Then don't go with a stock zexel unit go with a auburn or a something along those lines...Get with 2fast4love(ellis).He can Inspect it and tell you where to take it(Northwest differential I think)

Glad you made it man! Sounds like things were a little nasty on the way.

I am going to bet they did not take the rear end apart like they should have when they did the seal. so when they tightened it back up after installing the new seal it started to take out the Pinion bearings. i see this on a regular basis from the dealer idiots. It is all about getting it done as fast as they can and making a buck. they often times could care less about customer satisfaction.

The Good News is you are still under warranty and they have to patch it back together for free

Go to Kirkland Pontiac and have the work done. they are one of the better dealers around. At least you do not have a Checvy. I have yet to find a decent Chevy dealer in this area.

Glad you made it man and Happy Birthday!

I wouldn't recomend the Smokey Point Pontiac dealership, they did warranty work a couple times on my T/A and did a terrible job, they left vacuum lines off, cooling fans barely mounted, plug wire rubbing on P/S pulley and wires laying on the exhaust manifold. They were real ****** about fixing their mistakes. Dwayne Lane Chevy in Arlington did a much better job .

Happy Birthday! I hope you had a good one!

I'm glad you finally made it up here, and you made it relatively safely...as long as the car isn't too hurt..I hate when that happens!

Anyway, hope to meet you soon!

Thanks, it is good to finally be up here after wanting to do it for 2-3 years or more. As for my car's rear end, I will start looking into warranty/dealer work in the next week. If nothing pans out, you and/or Ellis will be my first calls.

My buddy put a 12 bolt in his 'Hawk and it whines as well, with 3.73's, but like you say, that is normal. This is a whine/growl/groan that is so friggin loud that even at 60 with the windows up and the A/C on low, I had to strain to hear my passenger talk......for 1200 miles.

Aaahhh i was waiting for some verbal abuse from you. Yeah, in Cali unless you see an object fall off a vehicle AND get the plate, nothing is going to happen with regard to helping me get my car fixed. And the roadways were littered with chunks of tires that had "fallen" off big rigs.

My buddy's Hawk came with the Auburn diff and he demolished it with normal everyday driving.........I had heard they weren't really any better then the stock ones we got.

I think my best bet will be to try a dealer or three and then get with Ellis or Tranzor to see what I can do.

Bye bye money.

Thanks Ellis, I feel a little better about it........one question though with regard to Warranty coverage. I have a TA girdle (Summit's version) on the rear end but it has been there since before they did the original rear pinion seal repair. Do you think they will try to jack me over that being the cause or will I be ok?

I will give Kirkland Pontiac a call.........thank God my folks are going on vacation at the end of the week and I can use their cars while mine is getting fixed.

My Mother takes her car (Chrysler ) to Dwayne Lane Chrysler and she seems to be comfortable with them....dunno if they are the same at the Chevy place. It sounds like you had a number done to your car at Smokey point, sorry.

Thanks hon, I am soooooooo glad to be up here, even if I am "camping out" till my stuff arrives and I decide where I wanna live up here. It still beats "Hell A". The car is ok, just had some paint removed on the front plastic "bumper" all the way down to the yellow. There is some dings on the undercarraige but that doesn't phase me any. Could always be worse.

I am looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the gang as well too.

See some of ya there.

I hear ya. That may explain why I feel so "at home" the couple of times I have gotten together with the gang at Hooters........either that or my intense hatred of Cali makes me fit in. Eh, either way, it is good to be here and I look forward to meeting you as well.

As for the track, if you mean this Friday night, I am game. Like I said, I have no plans so I may as well go suck up some exhaust fumes.

What can I say, I had my Mom & dog in the car.......plus it was hot as f&*k the entire trip up. Or were you referring to the fact that I have been wanting/trying to move up here for about 2-3 years? Brews r good...bewbies r good 2. Let's get this BBQ started.....I need to let some steam off. And what is wrong with being an airhead and/or a Gemini? I do them both very well.

Thanks Ellis. I am going to drive over to Seaview Pontiac in Lynnwood tomorrow (only cuz it is close) and see what they say. If they give me any crap, I will head down to Kirkland and see what happens.
