is Nitro legal?

is Nitro legal? Im planning to go with Nitro next month, and Im thinking of a place to locate it. I don't wanna put it to trunk, it just doesn't feel safe. What if someone rearends my car 
Middle of the rear seats seemed safest place to me, but then is it legal? What if a cop sees that?

Reminded me of the "exploding Pinto" in the 70-80s
I'm not sure of the regs for Nitrous nowdays but past has always been it needs to be furthest from the driver - as in the 'trunk' or a well built for holding the tank. The lines have to be dry and cut-off while street driving or that can be quite a fine.
Then again I'm old and still stuck in school.

Actually I think we were on this whole legality thing a little while ago. Seems to me if you are talking about legal in the State of Washington, there is nothing in the RCW about it. That would mean that you could "legally" run with your n2o wide open and the bottle sitting right next to you. If you mean legal for the track, someone else would have to speak up because I am not certain about that.

I don't think nitrous oxide is explosive. The charge bottle is a bomb because of the high pressure it's filled with, but with people heating the bottles with torches all the time, I don't think you should think of it the way you are. It's not like propane....
