Hmmm now i'm curious...Now i'm not bagging on anyone..
I have always been dead set against iron blocks.i have read alot of articles on both alloy an cast always been infavor of alloy. And alot of guys on this board use ati superchargers again after what happen to ellis i hate them damn things
so to be open minded about this thing can somebody explain to me why cast and ati supercharger are a prefernce.sorry mark to steal your thread for a moment maybe you all know something i don't .

Confused slowpoke

cast iron can take more cylinder pressure than an alloy block can, and it wont deflect or stretch as much as an alloy would. Anything with big cylinder pressures, N2O, Turbo, Superchargers, etc...will be better off with an iron block. ihmo and for my own personal peace of mind I'd take an iron over aluminum with the cost being equal.

Sure, there are exotic alloy blocks that can take it but they are quite a bit more spendy. I think Sardog got one of those spendy blocks, I would guess in the 5K range for the bare block and nothing else.

I was uner the impression on supercharger/turbo engines heat build up caused alot of performance issues. That has always been my biggest hang up with cast
If/when i build i better do more homework. I would love a titanium block

Hell, I'd be happy with titanium rods! A block would be awesome!

I'm no expert on s/c, turbo's and nitrous, all of my thoughts on iron vs aluminum are based on old school mentality, I could very well be wrong with all the new technology and mfg processes out there.

if it were me it'd be an iron block with main studs and head studs.

The tech at ATI suggested going with the 402 iron block. He said that after I get used to it I may want to upgrade the P-1SC to a D series (costs $1200) to get the full potential out of it. And if not, then I won't be pushing it hard & it should last forever. Interesting point of view.....

He also said they are about to release a single LARGE intercooler for people that are going big.

I was going to post about moving on up to a D series after you got used to it and not worrying about it if you already had the iron block.

Plus you can offset the weight of the block with another lb of boost!

Since it is your money, I'd go with this one. This is the one I'm actually thinking of getting. But I like the turbo route rather than the SC. But either way is good.

A&A 408 or 414 CID STAGEII FORGED SHORTBLOCK - $6,995.00

, or if you want to save a little bit of $$$

A&A 383 CID STAGE II FORGED SHORT BLOCK - $5,795.00
A&A 348 CID STAGE II FORGED SHORT BLOCK - $3,595.00 (rated 550+ rwhp easily)

glide with a trans brake would be my guess. no fun, but only 1 shift saves a bunch of time.
