I moved on Aug 8-10, was on vacation 12-19, and got my DSL line running today. Wish I could make it on Friday but I have a lot of work to do here. I have a loft to put in the garage. Lumbar gets delivered tomorrow. Then I have a yard to put in and it will not be small. If I push hard I will be able to relax and watch football on the second week of the season.

Sept 17th should have 1 of our teams on TV, might have both on....
Hows the new digs? Did you sell the old place yet?
You are right John, the pre-season doesn't mean much. It usually gives you an idea of who will have a good team, but it has been way off at times. Like ranking NU in the top 10 last year....HA! Many of the teams seem to make the list because of their name, not their talent.

No one posted the USC schedule. I guess I'll have to do that. First game is at Hawaii.
I see Nebraska is playing Maine. Isn't Maine division II?

Not sure if Maine is div 2 or not. Won't be the first shcool NU puts on the map. aka Miami in 81, or some other unknown that had some wizard playing QB that nows plays for the Minnesota Vikings. Or Arizona St, or....it ain the size of fight in the dog.
The Huskers will likely repeat last seasons performance this year. But just wait. This is the first year I can EVER recall that their recruiting class was ranked in the top 10, or 20, or even 50 for that matter. This year they were #2! Osborne used to have to build his players. This new coach IS drawing interest.
So where did Spurrier go? I know he took over somewhere. SC? Should be intersting to see him in the game again.

There are many great schools out there with impressive programs. I can remember the first time the Huskers & the Huskies played one of the Florida schools. It was like we were on frame-by-frame speed & they were on FF. The next year BOTH schools were out recruiting the fast kids instead of the buffalo-butts.
Osborne's biggest kudo, to me, was that he ran a clean program & he was more concerned about the kids than trophies. That is why he stood by Lawrence Phillips long after most would have given up, and that is also why his teams didn't do well in bowls. He saw them as a reward to 'his kids' for playing so well during the regular season. It wasn't until the 90s that he decided to keep his team practicing after the regular season ended so they didn't lose their timing. And it showed.
A lot of critics said NU couldn't match up with the SEC or SCC or xxx schools. All the time it was because Tom had a different focus. Then he decided to find out what his program could do if he really wanted it to. And NOBODY could compete....
But now he's gone & USC & Florida St & Texas & _____ have stepped it up. Every dog has his day, & NU will be back. Until then, GO SOONERS!
