What is your comfort zone?
With the "New Best Times" topic it got me wondering - just what are your goals for track times now and next year? Where would you finally feel comfortable to run X.X or XX.X consistently? Are you looking for the high water mark only or consistent times?
Just curious since the times to beat have gotten really low (high?)...12's were pretty fast now they are "good job". 11's are "great! you gonna go for 10's?" and 10's are "just a little bit more you could run 9's....." I'm not even going to touch on 8's, those are for people with no mortgage and money to burn.
So.................what are you shooting for?

My goal is simple... go as fast as the car will take me without spending a ridiculous amount of money.
At first I was hesitant to go all out with the car, but now... you'll see next year. The interior will pretty much be a couple of racing seats a 6 point roll bar, a nitrous bottle, and me. There will most likely be no carpet, no A/C, no wipers, probably no radio (but I like listening to tunes while sitting in the staging lane, so I may not let that go)... soft drag suspension... you catch my drift.
I don't know what kind of times that'll take me to... I'll be interested to see how far the car goes with stock heads both on the juice and N/A, with a drastic reduction in its weight.

It's also a question of how much development and downtime you'll live with as well as how many vehicles you have. Daily drivers running 10's don't do well as a rule.
I've been developing my H2 since late January/early February and I've knocked 3.3 seconds off its 1/4 time at a PARTS only cost of about $8k. If I had farmed out labor on all of it the total would run about $15-20k depending on who did the work and TUNING. That takes a level of commitment that many do not have. I don't dare total the hours invested in this "little" project.
Translate my project and gains over to a car and you see that most people aren't going to do it. That makes a car running low 12's exceptional and everything else "freakish"

Everyone's got money to burn, but it's about the oppurtunity cost of applying that money to something where it would serve you better. 10's would be nice, but so would retiring at 40. Due to that I'd be happy w/ 11.5s NA. Anyways I'll be getting another Vette in the next few yrs, so I'm going to need to put some mod money aside for when that day comes. I'd rather have 2 Vette's in 11's than 1 Vette in 8 or 9s.
BTW my daily driver is my 00' F-150. So if I wanted 9's it wouldn't be an issue about daily driving, but more of WHAT FOR. If I'm in 9's there's someone in 8s. It's a never ending cycle. I'll stick w/ trying to be consistent and looking good.

11.1x on motor, 10.5x on a 100 shot are my goals. Naturally I'll be adding a bunch of good 'ole fashioned traction and about 100 rwhp n/a to make it easier. If I keep my 60 fts no quicker than 1.5-1.6 then my drivetrain should live a good long life .... I hope

My goal for my car was to get into the 12s. I did that. then my next goal was to set it up for autocross and race it there. I did a few things in that relm, but its been so long since I've autocrossed.
I would like to add a cam to get a more aggressive sound and more power, but to get the most benifit out of it, I really need headers. Then I'll need a new clutch and rearend, so my simple $500 cam turned into $5000ish cam. That is a bit much for me to handle right now, as building a house and getting financially stable is much more important at this time.

11.5 is my goal. Shouldn't take much really. Just headers, converter, cam, springs, rockers and a 100 dry shot.
When, is the big question for me. I hope to have the cam and converter in by the start of next season. I can now park the formy for most of the time too since my winter rides have arrived. That should save me a bundle on gas, at 3 bucks a fookin gallon for premium.

I'd be happy with 11.5x's, The car should be able to do that already power wise, so its getting the rest taken care of that I need to work on. Worked on my power shifting that is going to make a huge difference. and I think I"m going to get some MT DR's on 17inch Z06 wheels for the track next year. That with the line lock and practice I should get close to my goals... If I dont' get there I'm going to throw a bottle of nitrous in the back!!!

My goal was just to be in the 12's even in crappy conditions. finally met that goal, so now I just need a tune. Have been thinking about a cam, but is still in the thinking stage. House and property is paid for so $ wise being stable isn't in question. I just want a daily driver I can actually drive everyday and with enough power to smoke most imports. So far I haven't broke anything except 2 defective aftermarket products(a weld on a aftermarket LCA seperated due to bad weld and the magnaflow muffler weld seperated and was replaced by magnaflow under warranty) and have over 32,000 miles on the 02, with a full season of CCCA races in 04 and 05(didn't miss any in 04 and 05) and a few in 03, even some Friday T&Tunes, so overall the car has seen a good 300 passes. About 60 on drag radials and still kicking. Just put in the converter about 1 month ago, so only have about 20 runs in the 12's, but every week have been dropping a 1/10th. Should run 12.5's with a tune.

I'm shooting for 11.50's as well. I don't want to install a roll cage. I'll put a 150shot on the car after I get my long tubes and if 150 is too much, I'll drop it down to 100hp shot to get me in the 11.5 neighborhood. I don't race on the street so NOS will work good for me. Next season I will be in the 11's for sure. This winter will be a winter of saving $$$$$
