Default I've been challenged

I stopped by Little Monsters today to see about making a pre stroker/blower dyno run tomorrow, and I'm snooping aroung drooling over all the cars they got under the scalpal, bs-ing with the guys, and they up & challenge me to a dyno race.

Agin what, says I?

Oh, this little 57 we got going here says Mike. (I was leaving marks all over this 70 Chevelle with a $12000 stereo, a Merlin 572 & HUGE-*** Vorteq, didn't even notice the 57 yet) So I wander over & they got this LS1 motor with a Victor Jr intake, 750 Holley inside a box, and TWIN TURBOS!!!

OK Elllis, what kind of magic can we work here? I figure sending my s/c in for the D series upgrade is a given, but can we do this? You know how competitive I am..... Can we get 6 to the wheels? I wonder if they'll let me spray (2 power adders vs 2 power adders - seems fair to me!)

For God sakes Mark they have TWO turbo's power full enough to deliver 800hp EACH!!!

Unless it is really detuned we would have a tough time.

BUT the F-1 upgrade might help

why don't you just go down to boeing and get a leftover jet engine and have ellis tune that for ya...maybe that will get rid of that hard on.

I've heard that driveability with jet engines can be a problem

They work quite well on tail-gaters!

The boys @ LM say they plan to hit 700rwhp with the 57 & then dial it back for streetability. So I would certainly lose the dyno race since our goal is 550*, but were we ever to meet up on the street / track.....

* not sure I can do this - with my driveline loss that would = 750 eng hp

Damn that is a lot of drive line loss. So what is the % you figure you lose through your rear end. And exactly what rear end you running?

Yes it is a lot Jon. My days of owning a dyno queen are over. But while some people think they know what this or that mod was worth, I really do know. I have probably had 15 dyno sessions with my car to document what every significant mod did. My wife says I'm ****, but I was really just curious to see if these mods are doing what they say they are.

Most people say an auto has around 18-20% loss. Most Dyno shops use 20%. Before my Ford 9" w/4.11s and the converter were installed I had 391.xrwhp. Now I have 360.x. That is roughly 8% more loss, or 28% total. (I actually used 27% to get the 750 #, 1 / .73 = 1.37 x 550 = 753)

Will my first-born be enough, or would Jr prefer a Hooters girl? Yeah big-daddy, if only you were still here I'd say we could go accept their challenge together. But they'd probably want to pair your car up with that s/c'd Merlin 572.

I'm actually thinking if they were willing to use eng adjusted hp #s, I might stand a chance if they'd let me spray. Even the little 50 shot Ellis & I are talking about using to cool the charge should put me well over 800.....and it would be good advertising for Speed Secrets.

On the other hand, my combo could turn out to be a dog.

Well, its good to be **** with some things...... Did you notice the gains that were advertised to be close or dead on, or were they mostly sales numbers? I have a heads and cam car that don't have the power it should have. I think its a little low, but I'll find out after I get the headers on and dyno it again.

I'm pretty excited to see it run as I know you are. Next season is a long ways off too. I sure hope I'll be around next year The military isn't known for the stable home life if you know what I mean

Most of the stuff did what it said, tho the HP #s seemed to be engine-rated not rw. The only mod that did nothing on my car was the ASP under drive pulley. But it's all about tuning when you mod. Working on my tune did a lot. Talk to Ellis.

And my car will be lucky to be in the top 5 next year Amy. I post a lot about what I'm doing because I think people like to read about projects. But there are several other monsters getting built that you don't hear much about. There are going to be a butt-load of fast cars around here next year......
