Default Opinions Wanted?

I am sure with this group there will be alot of varrying opinions on this. I am looking at a 1997 Salleen Mustang for a daily driver. It is a Black Convertible and in awsome shape. I think I can pick it up for about 16,000.00. The big question is can a Camaro and a Mustang get along in the same garage??? The bigger question is, Would you guys still talk to me if I bought a Mustang?

I thought about trading in my mom's Acura for a Cobra daily-driver myself when I was looking at what to do with the Acrua. The problem I ran into, though, was I knew it would not be long before I was dumping WADS of cash into it in order to make it perform as well as the Trans Am. Then I would end up with 2 project cars in the garage. So I decided against that possibility.

My thought would be that you could get a lot more car for your $16K, as Saleens are grotesquely overpriced.

I'm not a fan of Saleens myself. Seems like you are paying for the name and not performance so much. That being said, if you're paying for the name and the collectable nature of the car I don't think it would be a good car to daily drive. The miles racking up on it as transportaion drive the value of the car down.

Is it the super charged version? If so then the price sounds alright to me. I've always liked Saleens. I think they have much better looking ground affects than a Cobra or Roush. And the handling/brake pkg on them is superb! To think you coulda bought Todds car....

Price seems high to me. I would try to find a 98- vert(Mustang) for less. With the hot new body out prices are dropping. you can get alot of car for the money

If it was the supercharged one then hell yeah, if its the regular one, buy a 99 stang for 6k less and put some Rocsh (sp?) ground effects and cobra wheels, better looking and performing car....I think 99 was when the 4.6 got its updates. I know the 96-98 are turds. You'd be better off getting a V6 firebird convertible, better gas milage and it would be faster

I'd almost say look at a WRX... all weather performance plus pretty decent speed.

In my opinion, if I were to buy another car for a daily driver, it wouldn't be a new "sports" car. I mean you already have a fast car to satisfy that need. There are a lot of other cars out there for considerably less, that get better gas mileage, and aren't fords (I hate fords for the most part). Not to mention the cost of insurance on a convertable.

I just don't see the point of having another "less practical" car in the garage.

Now, between me and my wife we have 4 vehicles, but each serve their own purpose. Our daily driver is an $800 Subaru that gets 33 mpg (my wife drives about 75 miles round trip per day and drops me off for work). Then we have the formula, a Tahoe (nice and comfy, but 15mpg is hard to swallow all the time), and then my old pickup that doubles as a pickup for HomeDepot runs and show truck.

I love the look of Saleens. They make one of the best body kits for a car out there. I would rathe buy a stock GT convert and the buy a body kit and the few minor performance mods it has and save on the monthly pmts.

Thanks guys, It is not the supercharged version, but seems to be in very good shape. Maybe I will hold out until I find exactly what I want. Ack, The reason I want something else is the Camaro is not a daily driver and I would like to drive something that I can enjoy fulltime. I probably should have jumped on Todds car when I had the chance. Oh well I will just keep my eyes open.

you couldn't have driven todd's as a daily driver, that's why my buddy didn't buy it. He couldn't bring himself to drive it daily.

if you're out looking at sports style cars to buy why not try and find a stock ls1 f-body and pick one up to drive daily.

I have been looking for an F-Bod Vert to buy, but they are hard to find in good condition. If anyone comes across one please let me know.

Yeah, a good vert is tough to track down... personally, I think the method I've used to find them works fairly well.... F-bodies are a lot cheaper outside of this area. Just means a little more legwork, but I think you can find the right car if you're patient.

The same reason I didn't buy it, too. The first time I had to drive it down my gravel / dirt driveway I would just wince at the horror I was inflicting on that car.

I say buy what you want, drive what your want. It is your money; don't let anyone tell you how to spend it.
You want that Saleen.. I say get it. Those are nice cars. The whole F-Body/Mustang loyaty thing is kinda silly anyways. The reason I didn't buy a Mustang is because I didn't like how the interior of the car is and it is not that comfortable to me. Otherwise I would have seriously considered buying a Mach 1 a couple of years ago.
You think that car is cool and you can afford it... I say get it!

I have to agree with Evil here 16k for a 97 is not a good deal. You can do better for the money thats a high price.
