Default Leases: Good...Bad??

I am looking into buying a truck and Honda has a deal right now for a 2006 ridgeline:

279/month for 42 month 1500 due at lease Signing.

I am not too familiar with leases at all and was wondering what you all knew about it? Thanks!

It really depends on a lot of things, but mostly your plans for the car in a few years.

Basically if you're planning to keep the car after the lease is up, then I'd just buy it the first time. If you want a basically new car every few years then they might be a good option.

That all being said, I have never leased a vehicle, and really don't think I would.

Also, 42 month lease seems like a long time for a lease.

Hope this helps a little

Biggest problems with a lease (and they are only problems for some) are the mileage and wear & tear. MOST leases only allow for 12k miles a year.....and it is like $.15+ per mile for any mile over that when you return the vehicle...plus, it being a truck, wear & tear can be a lot. Having owned a few trucks I know they don't stay pristine and perfect for long.........things to think over. Overall the cost sounds right and if u are sure you want THAT truck for 3 1/2 years, it could be a good thing for you.

If you like to continously have car payments in exchange for having a new car every 3 or 4 years, then leasing is not a bad deal.

If you want to eventually not have any car payments and not have to worry about mileage or wear & tear, then financing is a better option.

It all depends on what you want, really.

Thanks guys! the main thing I was looking for were obvious reasons NOT to do it. I have heard about the mileage problem but since I have 2 cars I should be able to make it work.

The main reason i am looking into a truck is winter in nevada is REAL bad and the f-bodies don't do so well in the snow lol. The reason i picked the ridgeline is that is doesnt have THAT bad of gas mileage and is still kind of stylish.

I don't know about you guys, but after having a car for so long I get tired of it so for right now I think a new car every 2-3 years sounds like the right thing for me. Thanks for the input, Now, What color

My T/A sat for 3 days week before last from all that snow we had.........I am going to be in the market for a truck or SUV in the near future, but as a supplement, not a replacement.
